2023/24 Wednesday transfer thread...

He looked decent at Barnsley and since then a lot of clubs have looked at his attributes and thought he’s worth a try. Quick and physical and a grafter which would add something different/address a short fall in our front line. Just need a bit of match winning quality to be brought in alongside him. Maybe cannon?

Is he? Mmmmm

Well I admit he appears 2 have all attributes. Quick, strong. But goal scoring record leaves a lot 2b desired.

Could have done worse I guess

Go wank yourself dry over rapists at Harrogate then instead.

Didn’t Middlesbrough fork out quite a bit for Fletcher a few seasons back?

Also remember him playing quite well for Barnsley, but he’s slipped a bit off my radar in recent seasons so not sure what he’s been up to.

What’s your assessment of him @Tylluan?

Welcome to Wednesday Ashley! 🦉🔵🦉

Fletcher was considered one of the next big things at Man Utd's academy and a good loan spell at Barnsley seemed to reinforce that. But for some reason they let him go to West Ham on a free straight after he came back from Oakwell. 16 sub appearances later and Stam had Boro's pants down when they moved him on for between £6.5-7.5m depending on where you look. His best season for Boro was 19/20 when he did 1 in 4 then he went to Watford on a free.

He's contracted to Watford until 2026 and seems to have been brought in to be a loan cash cow. Spent last season at Wigan, prior to that he was at New York Red Bulls. He's only actually been at Watford in his first 6 months.

He's strong and direct and likes to fling himself at crosses but he tends to switch off if he's not in the game. If we're going to play 4-3-3 then he'd fit that 9 role. He's quicker than Smith but doesn't have the whereabouts of Gregory. He's 27 and not yet nailed down a regular start in any team, even on loan. Maybe Munoz can get a tune out of him.

Smith arguably for more goals for Rotherham at this level than Fletcher has anywhere other than maybe Boro. But he does offer that pace and strength we lack and will give us something new there. I hope we get a more natural goal scorer to help but it may be that we expect more goals from wide and midfield with cf doing a lot of graft

Your second paragraph would explain why my Twatford supporting season ticket holder Brother-in-Law had never heard of Fletcher.
