TheExile Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 He looked decent at Barnsley and since then a lot of clubs have looked at his attributes and thought he’s worth a try. Quick and physical and a grafter which would add something different/address a short fall in our front line. Just need a bit of match winning quality to be brought in alongside him. Maybe cannon? Tank_Owl2,0 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I wonder if this might mean we might let Smith go? Or should I say, I’d be considering any bids for Smith, if say Derby etc we’re interested. Fletcher, Gregory and even Pato would be number 9s right? Quote
KrolMong Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 The Fletcher signing should be judged on what else we bring in. 1 Quote

Tylluan Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Fletcher was considered one of the next big things at Man Utd's academy and a good loan spell at Barnsley seemed to reinforce that. But for some reason they let him go to West Ham on a free straight after he came back from Oakwell. 16 sub appearances later and Stam had Boro's pants down when they moved him on for between £6.5-7.5m depending on where you look. His best season for Boro was 19/20 when he did 1 in 4 then he went to Watford on a free. He's contracted to Watford until 2026 and seems to have been brought in to be a loan cash cow. Spent last season at Wigan, prior to that he was at New York Red Bulls. He's only actually been at Watford in his first 6 months. He's strong and direct and likes to fling himself at crosses but he tends to switch off if he's not in the game. If we're going to play 4-3-3 then he'd fit that 9 role. He's quicker than Smith but doesn't have the whereabouts of Gregory. He's 27 and not yet nailed down a regular start in any team, even on loan. Maybe Munoz can get a tune out of him. 1 1 Quote
TheExile Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Smith arguably for more goals for Rotherham at this level than Fletcher has anywhere other than maybe Boro. But he does offer that pace and strength we lack and will give us something new there. I hope we get a more natural goal scorer to help but it may be that we expect more goals from wide and midfield with cf doing a lot of graft Quote

Your second paragraph would explain why my Twatford supporting season ticket holder Brother-in-Law had never heard of Fletcher. 1 Quote

Gamblor Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Given our signings so far have been a loanee from last year and three players already known to the manager, you’d imagine that anyone else might take a little longer. Quote

Andyben Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Nailed on for promotion if he comes in. 43 clean sheets. Smith bagging 35 goals. 1 Quote
HoylandOwl Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Smith bagging 35? I'd be amazed if we create that many chances across the team for everyone in total with the way pre season has gone. 🙂 Quote
HoylandOwl Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 This keeper from AC Milan, Devis Vasquez, is in talks to join us on loan according to some Italian media folks Quote
NorwichOwl Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I know we only saw him for 20 minutes but Fletcher didn't strike me as giving us the pace we need up front. Quote

Ref. didn't give him much chance to, pal. When did having the ball become a free kick offence? We won't know for a while just what we've got in him but i saw enough to see he looks like he's got pace and power that we otherwise don't have up front. Time will tell how much. Quote
