Managerial Merry Go Round 22/23

Recommended Posts

Bielsa gave them a presentation over a zoom call where he showed that the squad has no pace and no volume. Then gave them a list of players and asked for £70m for this transfer window.

They flew him over to London to discuss further where he produced another slide show that showed how badly the club is being run and that he'd now need £100m.

So Sean Dyche it is then

Everton, the next club to do a Sheffield Wednesday?

Not shocked by Jones at Southampton. His interview after they got beat on Saturday was quite an odd one, he’s blamed everyone else but himself for the results so far by saying he should ‘stop listening to other opinions’ about how he should play and play his own way. He’s the manager by the way.

Leeds is an odd one, he’s brought in players from RB, and he’s signing Americans all over the place. The Americans, have been toss by the way. Why give him a window to then bin him off, the new coach is going to look at what Marsch signed and quickly realize that they are in the shit, but not be able to replace them.

If we don’t go up automatically they are welcome to him. (For the record, this post has nothing to do with the colour of his skin, in case any of you were concerned)

As a manager you know ultimately you will get sacked or move on before you do. Crikey even Klopp and Guardiola must have a degree of anxiety at present.

However I always think the definition of madness is returning to a Club that sacked you previously. I get a change of owner since the sacking might sway you, but a chunk of the fan base will not be whelmed.

Most want Pochettino and reckon he'd come as well. Deluded twats.

One mentioned Vilas-Boas as a perfect fit until it was pointed out he's not managed a club in two years and he's motor racing now.

But Warnock's name is gathering momentum as a possible short term appointment

Looks like Jones about to get the bullet at Southampton which is odd If you had heard his interview this morning proclaiming himself as one of the best in Europe ( allegedly ) , anyway also made a veiled dig at someone that he isn't allowed to play his way and that's why they are crap .

He was an odd appointment in the first place for Southampton IMO.

Did absolutely nothing at Stoke although did well in his first spell with Luton.

The bigger picture here though - we all generally aspire for Wednesday to be back in the Premier League but it seems its an inherently stressful pain in the ass trying to stay there

Indeed and a load of money spaffed on mediocre players to try and stay there is a common occurrence for teams that get promoted. DC would have to go to a whole other level IF we ever got there, which I’m coming to the view is looking extremely unlikely as the years roll by.

Why is that the best we can hope for?

Look at some of the established clubs in the PL now, Brighton and Brentford are 2 that immediately spring to mind

It’s achievable, but needs serious investment to do it. Using those two clubs as an example, they have absolutely elite scouting networks and very good academies that took several years to build. Both clubs effectively ripped everything up and started again from the ground up.

We would have to do the same.

We’d ultimately be like a team like Huddersfield or Hull if we made it to the premier league in the next 2-3 years. We’d not have the infrastructure in place. Now, would a year in the PL allow us to put the foundations in? Perhaps, if we are smart, then yes - and we could be a bit like a Norwich or a Burnley, perhaps we can then develop into a Brighton given that we are historically a big club.

But, and despite the division above being awful at the minute. We are a country mile off being a threat a division above.

You could say that the catalyst for both clubs rise was us.

It was Matthew Benham who funded the supporters trust buy out of Ron Noades after their playoff semi final loss to us. This ultimately paved the way for Benham to gain full control of club, albeit several years later, and start the 'moneyball' revolution rolling.

Brighton started the overhaul of their academy and scouting network after losing to us in the semis. The seeds were sown before Potter came in. He just expanded it
