  1. Didnt watch it. I had a horrible feeling that might happen with the midfield and full backs he'd picked. Its very rare we get much at Plymouth and tonight was no exception. By the sounds of it there was some promise from what I have read on here but ultimately zero points. Saturday is absolutely huge if we are going to have any chance of staying up this season, which is looking rapidly unlikely. Go a goal in front and maybe just maybe with a good positive crowd behind them a win can follow, but with Roveram winning they will have a bit of a spring in their step. Safe trip to anyone making the trip back.
  2. Yes not top of his list but he will need to consider it. You’d think Marv or others at the club will bring it to his attention, ie the squad being 1 shy.
  3. Some interesting and good points being made on this thread. Id take just staying up now, with the opportunity to build and improve in a more considered way during the summer, with the chance of brining through some U21s. I agree we were close to having a few more points but we are also setting ourselves up to fail by the way the team selection and chopping and changing has worked. Look how more solid we were when NT went back to basics. Yes it wasn’t a great watch but the guy only had 2 days to work with them. I also think there was an element of XMs approach to fitness and the amount of training was wearing down some of the squad such that they were simply not at it on the match days which also contributed to the heads dropping quickly once they felt the game was not going to go well. DR has to build on what DM did that worked and do a bit of drawing a line under what XM did and moving on. Now I’m not saying keep the DM style of play but I am saying build on it, ie as others have said adapt and evolve not simply throw the baby out because there are too many in the squad that were here last season and were recruited to suit the DM plan. And so far the new recruits with a few exceptions having not shown they can cut it. Anyway I’ll happily take fourth bottom but I’m hoping for mid table.
  4. Agreed. I was just trying to think of experienced English coaches that would be happy being an assistant. As I say I can’t think of many that would fit, unless they are simply looking for a season as a stop gap, which could be what Warburton would do.
  5. Surely the new coach would look at this again? Problem is, if Momo is potentially back soon-ish I’d rather have him in the squad than Marv. However, if he’s not likely to be fit before the transfer window opens I’d be tempted to get Marv in the squad immediately.
  6. That would be a decent appointment. Im struggling to think of many that you would think that would agree to be his assistant(s) that have already managed. Someone that knows the club is Stuart Gray but I can’t see him coming back to work for DC after he got shut of him pdq.
  7. Was Llera a Megson signing? I know it was about that time. Megson had that time pretty fit. It wasn’t fitness that let that team down it was the tactics and quality, which was addressed when Antonio arrived alongside the others that were the difference imho.
  8. Oh right not read that but I’m supportive of that, if that what it is. Was in the stir, I don’t read that crap on principle these days? You can imagine some fans will argue about as well. 2 years or a rolling contract would seem like a pragmatic balance both fronour league status situation and the fact that DR is unproven, do you agree?
  9. If we stay up I’d hope he’d only leave for a PL club, which I think would be unlikely after only 1 season as a Head Coach. However that is the flip side to the rolling contract it potentially means we are vulnerable to a better offer, but it does fit the philosophy that the Head Coach/ Manager is expendable if you have a policy and identity in the club. Whatever, it a brave and yet potentially exciting appointment. Also as Reesh says DC can’t win either way with some of our fans ie if he appoints on a long contract or the rolling contract approach. I personally think DC has his contract policy right for these appointments.
  10. Article in The S** saying we are about to appoint Rohl. Then there a pic of him and the captions says Sheffield U****d to appoint him 🙄
  11. Looks like Beale. Having his interview by the looks of it. Maybe.
  12. That’s the first live game I’ve seen since Ipswich. The quality of both team wasn’t great offensively but I thought we looked more determined and solid at the back, apart from Palmer - he was very poor. Bernard gets better every time he plays. The Cryuff turn he did was just great to see, youthful confidence. As others have said we really lacked the quality in the final third, but it was particularly the decision making. I also feel Byers isn’t quite at the races yet. Whilst not doing anything spectacular I think Wilks put a bit of doubt in their defence. Dawson did ok but I still think Vasquez is the slightly better keeper but I’m happy enough with Dawson if he can build some consistency. Its something to build on and we have a few games I feel we can do OK in with the right continuity and support from the Head Coach. Finally, I’ll say it again, there aren’t many teams in this league we should fear but we need to be tighter than a ducks arse in defence, ie if we can’t win - don’t lose.
  13. I hear what you are saying about the limitations MK but we also saw some good performances and results with the team we had in L1 against clubs from higher leagues. People might say those teams were not at full strength but I’d argue neither were we in every case. So, maybe difficult over 46 games but with the right preparation and set up I think we can get results in this league. We all know the strikers needs help but I’d argue Smith, Gregory and Wilks can get goals, with people like Byers and Pato also capable. A 352 or 4141 could work depending on who’s fit and what NT know about how the opposition might set up. Id go with the following, in the hope we’ve been working on set plays. Vasquez Iorfa Icky Bernard (/Famewo if fit) Valentin Byers Vaulks Paterson James Smith Gregory (or maybe Wilks) Subs Delgado (bring on 2nd half if we need a goal but still not convinced on his end product), Palmer, Bakinson (I might swap him for Vaulks) Gassama, Musaba, Hendrick. Assuming BB & JW don’t make a surprise recovery. I’d have both in 11 if they do.
  14. Where do you stand on people that wear caps back to front?
  15. Another one to add to my “No never” list. Ince is not far off being in the same bracket as Wilder and Warnock for me. Really don’t see what other clubs have seen in him. Didn’t particularly rate him as a player either poor version of Carlton!
  16. I like the “wears a cap indoors” particularly. It’s cost cutting to keep it going. Paradoxically I think the managers and players over recent years have given less away about the actual football so the journalists make bits up and nationally report on the personalities and private life. Theyd be better just reporting on the football and analysis of the games.
  17. Every time a Yank buys an English club the closer we get to that.
  18. I’m a little surprised we’ve played them so few times. Given they were historically a team that did reasonably well for a small town.
  19. Genuine question. Did we not have a “manager” in the years we won the league (first division) and cup etc. Hence there are no stats against an individual. I realise it might be that we may have won the league but the win average wasn’t that outstanding but it seems counterintuitive.
  20. I like the suggestion of Bruno Lage but I’d be surprised to see him at S6. Plan B would be Hughton but I’m a bit concerned about how committed he’d be to the cause Id take Bruce (if he can turn it around, even after the way he left), Smith, Manning and Warburton No way - most of the nsames that have been suggested tbh including Bullen, Warnock, Wilder and Cowleys Left field Stuart Gray
  21. Bullen would be a disaster footballing wise. He didn’t do well with a half decent squad so would be clueless with this squad. I admit I don’t have a reasoned answer to who we should have next but I think there are options out there and certainly better than what we have endured for the last 3 months. Lets hope the new manager gets the right support from the owner, the players and the fans because as DM managed to achieved (in the main) it’s going to need that togetherness to get out of this shit.
  22. I’ll be honest, he couldn’t do much worse, could he?
  23. Thank fvck. So what positives can we take? 1) I think there is a togetherness with those that were here last season 2) Yes we got spanked at home to Sunderland and at Swansea but I really do think we have players that can defend, both because of what we have endured this season and what we did re number of clean sheets last season 3) Gregory, Smith and to some degree Windass can score with the right service. I’m probably grasping at straws but I think there is something to build on. The chopping and changing needs to be dealt with so that the team begin to understand what they need to be competitive. Itll be intriguing to see what DC does next, I just hope it’s not knee jerk.
  24. 100% agree Hoyland. I can’t think of a time we’ve gone from such a ‘high’ (even if it was only 3rd division promotion) to a ‘low’ so quickly and with such a desperate feeling of inevitable doom ahead. Things were bad in the 70s and early 2000s but there wasn’t such a sudden (and so self inflicted) change in fortunes like the last 3months. We’ve seen bad luck and bad decisions but the apathy and bad feeling is pretty extreme at the minute on top the DC statement on his future plans to curtail investment.
  25. There are no words to cover how sad this is. RIP
