  1. This is the sort of appointment that I’ve wanted us to make for a very long time. Add a proper recruitment structure too and I think it’ll put us in a really good position, regardless of what ultimately happens this season.
  2. That’s technically true, but we’d have a game in hand over Ukraine, whose remaining game would be against Italy, whilst we’re playing North Macedonia and Malta. I’m no Southgate fan, but we’ve all but qualified.
  3. If anyone is going to manage to miss out on a tournament that they’re partially hosting, Scotland will find a way.
  4. They’re going to have to do something about scheduling and give teams extra time as playing on Saturday in Montevideo then Tuesday in Rabat doesn’t seem fair.
  5. I agree. TUF branding was everywhere when Chansiri joined, then it quickly disappeared. He may not listen to anyone in this country, but it looks like someone can change his mind.
  6. Higher income means higher spending more frequently than it does immunity from any financial shocks. I think the effect is wider though, everything seems to be falling apart and that’s going to impact everyone’s mood - players, staff and fans.
  7. Has a side ever followed a record high points total with a record low one?
  8. If he’s referring to the poster above then I think I agree.
  9. I think Carlos then managed to repeat that in the same season with Swansea - it was the last game of the season and against another relegated side iirc.
  10. Nothing needed to be said and certainly not at that length. That could have been two sentences, but should have been none.
  11. Having watched the game, I’m not sure there were any. We have Foden, Bellingham, Saka and Kane. Those four start for pretty much every club out there and need to start every game for England, with the first two being as central as possible. They also all (now) play for clubs who play against all out defence regularly, which England did yesterday. Bellingham being pushed out to the wing to accommodate Henderson is unbelievable, as was bringing Bellingham off. He’s been Real’s best player this season and deserves better.
  12. The problem is that morons are loud and gather in large numbers.
  13. I don’t know, for me, those apostrophe crimes are the most severe.
  14. I think the end to the transfer window could contribute too. The players we’re linked with seem to be linked with several other Championship teams, which likely means that someone will be unhappy when the window closes. If we don’t make additions and lose convincingly, it isn’t going to be good.
  15. I think this could be poor terminology by the Star. The mean is susceptible to being skewed by very small, or very large values. You can be amongst the lowest paid and paid the mean value for the league, if those who are paid less than you are paid much less than the rest. I don’t know how the distribution of Championship manager salaries looks though so can only speculate. It’s easier to give an example if you look at being skewed by higher salaries. Let’s say that our mean player salary is £15k p/w and Bannan is the highest paid on £30k. If we suddenly signed Erling Haaland on £400k p/w, the new mean salary could be £40k, but all other players including the former highest paid player would now be “below average”. It could just be shit reporting though.
  16. It’s a 46 game season and we’ve played 3, including one against a side who’ve made £100m from selling two players since we played them. We’re two months behind everyone else because of the playoffs, the managerial change and the change in style, which will hopefully make us look more like the sort of side who are successful in this league. There don’t seem to be many people saying that yesterday didn’t represent some form of progress either. We need to be better, yes, but our season starts after the international break.
  17. I really don’t see what the downside is here. No one has said we’ve signed a world beater, but those highlights on YouTube are the best I’ve seen in a long time for one of our signings. He’s on a free and if we end up paying a fee then it’s because things have gone very well. It’s also important to remember that when you bring in players to develop, some won’t work out, but that doesn’t mean your strategy is bad. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Gassama play, particularly when Musaba is also on the pitch and finding out how good those two can be.
  18. I think most of them clearly don’t, but that lure of having a much better side is a strong one. Those clubs and fans who don’t directly benefit in some way from Saudi money may have a different opinion.
  19. I think they will be and then Saudi will respond with a chequebook. This summer, as well as what’s gone on in golf, has illustrated that fewer than you might think care about the source of funds if the amount is high enough.
