    I think they will be and then Saudi will respond with a chequebook. This summer, as well as what’s gone on in golf, has illustrated that fewer than you might think care about the source of funds if the amount is high enough.

    It’s unlikely, but it’d be someone like a Liam Palmer who could have a chance. A player with an affinity for the club who spends their entire career at close to the same level that the club is.

    Saw on SSN earlier that FIFA and the Saudi Pro League seem to disagree on when it closes, FIFA claim it’s ~20th and the “SPL” (Scots are going to love that acronym) say 7th. Either way it could mess with the PL.

    Saudi want the World Cup, there’s no way they’re doing the one thing to FIFA that they actually would respond to.

    Given our signings so far have been a loanee from last year and three players already known to the manager, you’d imagine that anyone else might take a little longer.

    I know, I’m being optimistic. But regardless of the quality of the league, Southgate picking him would surely be seen as hypocrisy because it’s Saudi.

    If it’s regulation that affects banks then it’ll be the Financial Conduct Authority who writes it. Their website and documents aren’t the easiest to work with though.

    I don’t know of anything that would stop it, but suspect it could be a worry over something like fraud/anti-money laundering checks making the process a hassle. Unusual authorisations may look suspicious and trip the fraud defence systems and the club might just see that as not worth the trouble. I have worked closely with the legal and fraud departments in banks, but never in those departments themselves, so there definitely could be something that I’m missing.

    If only there was a place where women’s rights don’t matter, enough money to offer Jordan Henderson £600k p/w and with a low enough bar that Steven Gerrard can get a managerial job.

    Injury ridden season limiting him to four games - sounds like our sort of signing!

    Well you’d have to either both agree to it, or not, if one side says no then the answer is no. Maybe you limit it to same division sides.

    I think the removal of replays should be between the two clubs drawn together. If both are happy to drop it, then just go to penalties on 90 minutes. That way you don’t remove a significant revenue stream from a lower league club, but still reduce the number of games.
