Brizzle City Away match thread......

On reflection it was a pretty decent performance and unlucky not to get a point.

A few weeks ago that sending off would have been the trigger for a total collapse. Still annoyed that Dawson chose the option for a short pass. If you re-visit it then it wasn't from a goal kick, it was from the touchline to him and there were 3 Bristol City players lurking. A 70 yard up the field moment.

I do think what will cost us this season is the lack of quality in the final third

It was a rick by Dawson but as others have said IF we are going to persist with playing out from the keeper/back the outfield players have to be alert Bannan wasn't notwithstanding Dawson's poor choice. It's  happened before this season with other players ( and keeper).

On a more general theme I like is that the vast majority of fans are very much on board with how DR is progressing things notwithstanding the stark stad of obe win and 3 defeats in four. Anyone can see that we are much improved which will only progress IMO as the squad gets fitter.

I expect an injection of a bit of quality in January probably facilitated by most of the loanees going back if loan terms permit. The permanent Xisco signings are fortunately showing to be the better summer recruits.

Isn't Fletcher 'ours' on a short term contract not on loan?

It was one of the young lads, Musaba or Gassama who was supposed to be a loan but became a permanent at the last minute.

Bernard is also on a short contract.

We could also look to make Momo permanent in January if Rohl likes him as he's on a loan to buy.

Would you give Buckley a run in Bannan role, or shore it up with two from Byers/Vaulks /Hendrick and use them to feed the wingers/wing backs

Buckley seems a tad lacking in physicality - be a good option in a side that dominates possession which we aren't.

There are still times, evident in the early part of yesterday's game where the gaps in our midfield are easy to exploit. Not saying the missing Diaby is the solution but he did look like he could be

We need to get him on at least another year as he's already been looked at by other clubs

Seem to recall there was an interview where he basically suggested he was coming here to put himself in the window hence why he'd only signed on for a year. Said something like, the championship is great, but I want to be playing higher.

I think technically, Buckley can do the Bannan role. But physically and athletically he can’t. He’s just not mobile or physical enough, I don’t think he’s a great reader of the game defensively.

I do think there is a role for him if his fitness improves, perhaps even as a 10 in a three behind a striker.

What I’d actually like to see in Jan is a goalscorer, a mobile 9, a proper 10 and a left back.

If we have to terminate loans and get rid of a few to do this, so be it.

Certainly Fletcher and Hendricks, if we can ship out a couple on loan such as Lee Gregory and Liam Palmer, that would give us the space we need in the squad.

I like Hendrick, and thi k hell come good same as Byers and Vaulks have despite getting pelters from our fans initially

That tackle by Famewo though 😍😍😍😍 the more I see it the better it gets he’s miles behind him when he sets off Dawson no where near getting back and he slides in 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Didn't he put his finger up to Dawson to tell him you owe me one?

Am pretty sure that's why he's only on a one year contract. I can't imagine that was our idea.

Him getting a good move isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it will encourage more players in the same situation to come here.

If we are going to be sustainable, then this is the sort of thing we need to be doing.

Only compared with him not coming here in the first place but I know what you mean.

We need young players who come here for the opportunity to progress, not old players who are only here because we're the only mugs going to pay them what they're getting.

The clubs looking at Bernard are Championship clubs and none of them are currently in contention for promotion.

As good as he's looking in our team he's not PL standard. There's footballing reasons why Man Utd sent him out to Hull and Portsmouth and no other higher club took him when he was released.

He isn’t 24 until October so believe if he did move at the end of his contract then we’d be due some sort of fee.

Difference between Bernard and someone like Urhoghide is Bernard signed as a first team squad member. He runs his contract down then he walks for nothing. Urhoghide signed initially as an u21 so we could claim academy association to get Celtic to pay.

But is that free transfer only if he goes abroad?

Sorry mate I don't think you're getting it. We got fees for Shaw and Urhoghide (and the two lads who recently went to Brentford B) because they were 'developed' by us through our academy system and the u21s. We've had no input into Bernard's development as he came to us as a full first teamer.

If he'd turned down a Man Utd contract to become a free agent then we'd have owed them about a million but they released him so they didn't collect anything.

If a player has spent time in a club youth development system and turns down the offer of a contract to become a free agent then the parent club is entitled to recoup some of the coaching and development costs. The amount depends on time spent and academy category. That's why we got around £300k for Shaw but only around half of that for Urhoghide.

Was never a red.

but still amazed it got overturned

joke though as it probably cost us at least a point, they were there for the taking

That’s the bit that always gets me about this. It cost us at least a point but nothing happens about that.

I’m not saying you should replay the game but some sort of acknowledgement would be nice.

We have the same number of points as we did at kick off so I'm not sure how it has cost us points

What we saw after the red card has no bearing whatsoever on what we would have seen if it hadn't been given

We might have got something, we might have still lost

So there's an error, which arguably could be said to have cost us the game. Yet the ref will go unpunished, and carry on this weekend like all is well and he can just basically say 'soz lads' and it'll be over with.

This, it is so frustrating

You know what I'm saying, a decision like that which is now said to be wrong, has the potential to limit our chances of picking up any points from the game.

Correct, apart from the highlighted part...

There is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING.

Yes. But it also might not have done
