MAL
Paterson was complaining good style about Delgado to begin with, because he had to covering both positions. But Delgado got the message and fitted in okay, hopefully more to come when it is a settled side. I think a promising outlook.
owl71
Rarely have I come away from a home defeat as reasonably happy as tonight. We showed enough second half to suggest we’ll be well clear of a relegation battle. The little bit I’ve seen of Xisco’s signings, they look an improvement on what we had. The way Southampton played, particularly in the first half, was a million miles away from the kind of shite we were up against most of last season. We got closer out of possession second half and rattled them a bit. Really liked what I saw of Delgado, an intelligent, lively player.

Gregory scored with his only real chance and had little support from midfield. Delgado wasn't a threat, but I thought he showed a few glimpses of what he might be capable of once he adapts. Musaba offered nothing? Looks like he's got skill and pace and totally different to anything we've seen for years based on tonight. Fletcher looks more mobile and more physical than Smith. EBRA
Like most of you I’ve come away last night not feeling too down hearted. We lost to 2 well taken goals and against a team whose likely to lose a few before the window shuts and whose value is light years ahead of ours. Also consider we lost Byers in middle before kick off and 10 of 11 played a totally different system for 1 whole season if not 2 then yes am fine with the defeat. One scary factor was the 6 + 9 minutes extra time on the field. Now that serious value for you tickets prices but going to be costly for those 5:30 train back to Sheffield away days lol. Will be interesting to see how long all this lasts ref was under pressure last night in my opinion to perform in front of the cameras with the rest of the world watching. Plus the fact he has a bit of controversy attached to himself as well. 😳😳 https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/37633248/bobby-madley-return-premier-league-referee-four-years

mkowlthesexynewversion
The first half additional time was a complete joke. No injuries, ok a few free kicks and yellow cards and Dawson may have extended goal kicks a bit, but I said 2 minutes max. I really do get why it was needed as it was becoming ridiculous, but you do not want to do stupid the other way either. Games seem to elapse 2 hours from kick off as a norm, be dragging out to 5.15 for a 3pm ko before long.
HoylandOwl
Well, as others have said, I thought we’d be absolutely smashed to bits after that first 20 mins. They were so good with the ball and the trio of Walker Peters, Tella and Ward Prowse were nothing short of fantastic without it too. In the second half we were much better and it happened as we seemed to step up the intensity in closing the ball down. I mean, give internationals like Ward Prowse all the time in the world, you’ll get hurt. We got a lot closer to him and the others and it showed. We deserved our goal and rattled them for a while.I thought that Smallbone for them was excellent too. Musaba looks like he’s going to be an exciting one, Delgado grew into the game, I thought Famewo did well and Pato too aside from the mix ups with his new teammate. If there’s anyone better than that in the Championahip against us this season then, we’re going to see something special. As I was very impressed with them. Only worry for me was the lack of chances created. BUT. We had one early doors lashed over, and Gregory scored. I do think Musaba will create some though. It’s work in progress and I think we progressed a little in the game last night
mkowlthesexynewversion
It is hard to judge, were Southampton brilliant in that first 20 minutes or did we make them look brilliant. Those players last year got the run around at times, so it was no surprise that the higher quality players for Southampton did it with ease. And I think plenty of other sides could easily do the same. We were fortunate that Martin's teams lack a killer instinct. If the midfield is not strengthened then we are never going to take control of games and be in position to create chances. Like many I was not disheartened but equally we cannot gloss over some notable lack of quality

Pato went through Ward Prowse toward the end of the first half and he didn't fancy it for the rest of the half after that. Which is what we should have been doing from the off. On reflection I think last night could have been the right game at the right time, that first 20 mins shows DC just how far off we are. The strength in depth in that Southampton squad was frightening, I think any one of those players walks straight into the starting 11 of any of the three sides that went up from this league last season. Also Walker-Peters - up until about three days ago he was their 2nd choice right back... frightening.

Any side would miss Byers. Neymarv, crossing ability is a miss, but I can’t see Windass playing anywhere else under Xisco currently. Valentin I think will be the RB. Just not quite ready. Musaba I think can and will move between the positions. His impact almost instantly down the middle was exciting, but he had a run a little later from the right hand side taking a couple on and crossing which was cleared. But he showed what I want, a player who’s not afraid to run at a man and has pace. It’s been a while!
Andyben
Windass as a 10 gains a player to get past the 9(Gregory or Fletcher), but lose Bannans ability on the ball so we'd have to concentrate on wing play (out and in) And have a two of Vaulks and Byers in middle
HoylandOwl
I don’t like having one up top right now, and I agree he’s more effective or he been, floating around behind the top striker whoever that is.

Chelters
What happened to the protest that the Twitter (sorry, X) lot were organising?
Andyben
On Paterson, did well but played like he was "doing a job" due to injuries in squad. Got violated a few times and I thought was nailed on for a red or to be hooked at H/T. We simply can't have players fill in in this league and need specialists, so has to be one of Valentin or Delgado each game in that position. 1
Andyben
If we're sticking with 4-2-3-1 then there's a few players gonna be kicking their heels come match day. Smith & Wilks are gonna have splinters unless he mixes it up and plays two forwards

lobster
brother in law is a Saints fan, reckons at least 5 of their current squad will be gone by the end of the window. Just the luck of the fixture draw we got them when we did

When we were queuing to get in, some bloke underneath the south near the directors entrance chanted "Get out of our club" twice, then what just sounded like noise, but I presume was supposed to be Dejphon Chansiri and then another "get out of our club". All to the tune of "he's one of our own" which I found ironically amusing
