  1. A nice interview with XM that doesn’t include DC & DM Xisco - Coaches Voice
  2. I’m not stressing about his record at Watford, or any of his previous clubs. I think I read that he was then, and still is, the youngest manager in the Championship, so he’s obviously been developing his skills in those roles - and will still be learning with us no doubt. Unless you’re in Pep’s league, success or failure at one club doesn’t always follow to the next. Ask Smith, Jones, Gerrard etc. Given that we don’t seem to be able to attract a fully-formed proven manager, then I’m more excited about the potential of an up and coming option over been-around-the-block, (Pulis, Bruce?). It might work - it might not. Up and coming might quickly become up and off, but at least feel like I can look forward the season now, and actual football - rather than fixate on what DC is up to.
  3. That’s not Eccy Road. Fake news.
  4. James and Marv signing in the last couple of days. Possible that they’ve had some reassurances over the managerial position? Or just a fact that we’ve offered the best terms and they’re happy to hope for the best?
  5. A very interesting write-up for Brian Barry-Murphy from the Man City site. The making of a Manager… Brian Barry-Murphy… could he?
  6. Mate who’s a Villa fan said Stevie G was a disaster. Tactically clueless, chopped and changed the team on a whim, fell out with players randomly. Only thing he offered was “being Stevie G”. All Emery needed to do was to give them a basic structure and they strolled up the league. Not for me.
  7. Just watched the highlights back. What you don’t see (understandably) is the shift the back 3 put in. Last Friday we showed what can happen when they get it wrong but all 3 of them won their 1v1’s. Icky stood up to the Big Unit all night and Dom and James coped with the wide pace. Not a night for singling out individuals, so I’ve singled out 3!
  8. R5L telling us at length the Newcastle fans invented supporting their team.
  9. Remember coming out of the Amex Stadium, 1-0 win -Giles Coke (just checked - 2014) getting caught up in the chants of “We’ve got Stevie May” before he’d kicked a ball for us. I’m sure he did kick a ball for us from time to time, but I can’t remember that part.
  10. Avoided watching these montages since getting excited about Stevie May. Not sure why I’ve just broken my rule but wasn’t expecting to see so many headers.
  11. Sad news of the passing of an ex-Owl, Jack Martin. His Grandfather was in the Owls FA Cup winning team of 1896. Jack came to Sheffield in the 1950’s from Dundee North End. The “transfer fee” paid for a new wall to be built at North End’s ground, (still standing!). Playing in an era when pre-match nerves were settled with a nip of whiskey, Wednesday gave Jack the amazing opportunity to see the world - playing on tours of Russia (2nd left) and Nigeria, although his biggest game in blue an white was probably at Old Trafford immediately after the Munich disaster. A game, Jack said, the whole country wanted Wednesday to lose. For once, they didn’t disappoint. Jack never left S6 and remained an Owl to the end. Sadly suffering with Alzheimer’s like so many more footballers of his generation, his time at Hillsboro long since forgotten by Jack - but an adopted Sheffielder and always a proud Owl. Rest in peace.
