You're right they did.

Not sure why they moved it to later in the day, maybe to keep people there longer spending more money?

Yes it's only recently changed to 5.15 start. Used to be 3.40. I actually think they moved it because of the football, so in theory more people watch it

The 30 years ago thread prompted this thread.

I vaguely remember it being ran at half time and being put on the old scoreboard when the result was confirmed.

Was this right or have I made it up

It definitely happened.

One year I think they kept updating it as the race went on…

They did use to put the results on the scoreboard, you're quite right.

Other ideas for the thread.

Pigs at Wembley <> the National that got abandoned

I think I always get this wrong but I'm convinced that Everton semi final <> Little Polivier [sp] cos I had good money on it and it softened the blow.

During the 80s when I first got into it the race always went off at 3.20

It's later now but it's nothing to do with football, they just think they can get a higher viewing figures at tea time as more people are at home then

Yep West Tip won it the same day in 1986 as the FA Cup Semi v Everton

Little Polvier won in 1989, the day Wednesday got beat 5-1 at Anfield in an early kick off

At last the Owlsonline thread I was born for

Newcastle home game a few years ago....on Sky 5:20pm KO?   The Fletcher doing that gay goal celebration game.....National was on concourse screens before match.

Yep, 2017. I was working in a bookies then so couldn't get to the game. Can't have Grand National day off in a bookies

The race pretty much finished as our game kicked off. I turned the telly over and saw Hooper hit the bar in the first minute
