Sheffield Wednesday Friendly 1980’s

Hi. I’m new to this site, a Sheffield Wednesday fan stranded in Leeds.

Can anyone help me with a question.  I was asked the other day what the first live Wednesday match was. It might be me mis-remembering but did we play an African National team in a friendly around the mid eighties.

Thanks, been bugging me for weeks.  
Remember being gutted when Bannister left. Guess he just never fit in to Wikinsons style of play.

Agreed.

That and The Wednesday Boys are my favourite points of reference.

Both are ready for an update. The Complete Record goes to 2011, The Wednesday Boys to 2005. Although given the turnover of players these days the latter would be about three times thicker.

We tried to do the update from the Adrian Bullock site once, was very very hard work.

Earliest memory of a friendly for me was in 89 when Wednesday visited Witney Town in Oxford, went with my Dad....

If anybody was there & remembers a young 6 year old getting the ball smacked straight into the face...  that was me!
