  1. Pretty sure I had us for a point at Bolton and nothing at MK - so three up.
  2. It was also Easter on this corresponding weekend 30 years ago, and on the Saturday it was the long trip to the south coast to take on Southampton. It ended in another three points as a second half goal from Hirst gave us a 1-0 success. Williams headed forward and the Boy Wonder held off the defence before a smart left footed finish. Woods, Nilsson, King, Palmer, Pearson, Warhurst, Wilson, Sheridan, Hirst (Anderson), Williams (Francis), Worthington
  3. Yellows for Storey, Palmer and Johnson at MK. Barry Bannan 15 Marvin Johnson 13 Callum Paterson 12 Massimo Luongo 11 Sam Hutchinson 10 Dennis Adeniran 7 Liam Palmer 7 Jaden Brown 6 George Byers 6 Jack Hunt 6 Chey Dunkley 4 Dominic Iorfa 4 Harlee Dean 3 Lee Gregory 3 Bailey Peacock-Farrell 2 Olamide Shodipo 2 Jordan Storey 2 Lewis Wing 2 Theo Corbeanu 1 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Sylla Sow 1 Joe Wildsmith 1 Quote
  4. MK’s fight back meant that Bannan’s wonder strike was the winner, with Gregory’s getting us our first point. In Meaningful Goals it’s two points for Berahino, half for Gregory, and nothing for Bannan. Today is an argument for those who were arguing that a goal putting you three up should be worth something earlier in the season. I’ll mull that over before the start of next season. Who Got Us The Points Lee Gregory 11 Barry Bannan 9Callum Paterson 6.3 George Byers 6 Florian Kamberi 5 Own Goals 4 Sam Hutchinson 3.8 Marvin Johnson 3.3 Theo Corbeanu 3.2 Saido Berahino 3 Josh Windass 3 Bailey Peacock-Farrell 2.8 Jack Hunt 2.6Liam Palmer 2.45 Jordan Storey 2.4Dennis Adeniran 2 Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 1.2 Dominic Iorfa 1.1 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Massimo Luongo 1Chey Dunkley 0.8 Lewis Gibson 0.3 Ciaran Brennan 0.2 Harlee Dean 0.2 Joe Wildsmith 0.2 Olamide Shopido 0.1 Jaden Brown 0.05 Meaningful Goals Lee Gregory 13 Barry Bannan 9.5 Saido Berahino 9Callum Paterson 7 George Byers 6.5 Josh Windass 6.5 Florian Kamberi 5.5 Dennis Adeniran 4.5 Sylla Sow 4.5 Chey Dunkley 3 Marvin Johnson 3 Theo Corbeanu 2.5 Jack Hunt 2.5Liam Palmer 2 Jordan Storey 2Lewis Wing 2 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Massimo Luongo 1Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 1 Olamide Shodipo 1 Sam Hutchinson 0.5
  5. True, but I stand by my belief that nine points from our five games should be achievable, and I could easily see Plymouth only getting four from those fixtures. That would see us on the same points, their goal difference is two better than ours at the moment. If we were to win tonight would you still swap?
  6. Not as tough as Plymouth’s. Sunderland (h) Wigan (a) MK (h)
  7. We got nine points from our last five games, 12 from the five before that, and 12 the five before that too.
  8. 82 points has to be enough for a play off place doesn’t it? Three wins from our last five games (or two wins and three draws) - that’s got to be within our capabilities surely.
  9. Assuming we beat Crewe, the worst case scenario after the Easter games will be three points behind Sunderland on the same games, three and two behind Wycombe and Plymouth respectively with a game in hand on both. Don’t panic though we’re getting something at MK tomorrow.
  10. True - but if we can’t beat Crewe at home then we don’t deserve to go up. if Sunderland beat Plymouth it brings the latter right back into it - any two from four rather than the two from three we’ve all been talking about.
  11. No panic stations if we draw tomorrow imo. They both have tougher games than us on Monday/Tuesday
  12. And I always thought it was “and we support The Wednesday”
  13. I think you need to clarify your opinion of Sam Fender - it’s not clear.
  14. Blackburn away in the 79-80 promotion season. Wednesdayites everywhere. An insane belief that we were definitely going to win the game even when we were behind. Two blokes in front of us had a bottle of champagne that one of them was preparing to open when we equalised. “No, save it till we get the winner” his mate said; which we duly got with about 10 minutes to go. Loads from the Wilkinson promotion season and the first season back in the top flight. The 2-1 v Man City with a reported 12,000 Wednesdayites there. Those were the numbers that were talked about at the time, but I hesitated before typing it as it seems absurd, but I do remember counting coaches as we were leaving and stopping when I got to 100. It was so much easier to attend an away game back then, pay on the day, and cheap. I knew people who barely went to home games that would sometimes rock up for a big away game. Others from that era - the Shelton overhead kick game at Newcastle, the wins at Liverpool and Man Utd, hammering Southampton 3-0 and missing about half a dozen sitters too. From the Atkinson promotion/League Cup winning season - 4-2 at Leicester, 2-1 at West Brom, 2-0 at Chelsea in the semi final. The Blackburn League Cup semi in 92-93 - sadly will never see Wednesday play as well again I fear. The 2-1 injury time win at Hull.
  15. We weren’t 3-0 up though were we? I thought it was 1-0 down, 3-1 up, 3-3.
  16. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting a hat trick every game, I just didn’t think he’d done much that game. And if we’re being honest haven’t his good games for us been restricted to the second half v Donny and the Cambridge game? I also don’t think that NML is the answer up top by the way; just that I’m not sure Berahino is either. Although I do think that I’d be trying him for the next game or two.
  17. It’s a new venue for me as is the Leeds one - that’s at Brudenell Social Club, which also sounds like it’s a good venue from what I’ve read about it. Persuaded Mrs Cheat to go to BC Camplight (she was “who?”) as the Joshua Radin one is mainly her choice - don’t mind him myself though to be fair.
  18. The thing is he didn’t randomly drop Berahino. He started him the following game after his Cambridge hat trick, but he was ineffective. He’s not started any of the four games since then, although he was unavailable through international duty for one of them, and just back from that for another. I don’t think it’s fair to say NML was flying in his other position either. He’s not played there since returning from injury, and you wouldn’t drop Hunt for him right now would you? I think Moore is far from perfect but the only real tinkering he’s doing at the moment is trying to find the elusive correct partner for Gregory up front.
  19. Agreed. That and The Wednesday Boys are my favourite points of reference. Both are ready for an update. The Complete Record goes to 2011, The Wednesday Boys to 2005. Although given the turnover of players these days the latter would be about three times thicker.
  20. In midweek Wednesday travelled to Coventry and returned with a single point thanks to a goalless draw. Despite the 0-0 score line it was a game full of chances with both Williams and Hirst being denied by two good saves from Coventry keeper Ogrivovic, and Woods pulling off two good saves of his own. Woods, Nilsson, King, Palmer, Pearson, Shirtliff (Harkes), Wilson, Sheridan, Hirst, Williams (Francis), Worthington. On the Saturday there were 32,138 inside Hillsborough for the visit of Man City. The game was goalless at half time despite Pearson and Hirst both going close and Wednesday dominating the game. The reward came after the break with Hirst opening the scoring in what I always consider a typical Hirst goal. Picking the ball up wide left on the halfway line he powered forward and shot home via the post from just inside the penalty area. The points were secured late on when Worthington volleyed home Nilsson’s cross to give Wednesday a 2-0 win. Woods, Nilsson, King, Palmer, Pearson, Warhurst, Wilson, Sheridan (Harkes), Hirst, Williams (Francis), Worthington
