  1. Where do we have to finish for the place part of it to come in? In horse racing a field of 24 it would be first four wouldn’t it? If same for football then the place part of the bet is pretty much guaranteed. Something to bear in mind when deciding whether to cash out or not.
  2. Hate Leeds as much as the next man, but fuck me that was never a foul. Can’t believe Shearer’s take that it was a definite foul - think he could rule out half his goals based on that.
  3. I’ve gone Windass, but now thinking I should have gone Palmer, or Flint.
  4. Catch up part 13 - week ending 3rd January 1993 Bad weather ruled out the early January fixtures with Wednesday’s trip to Southampton on bank holiday Monday 28th December being the last fixture until 10th January. Wednesday finished the year off with a win defeating the hosts 2-1. Sheridan dispatched an early penalty after Monkou had upended Hirst in the box. Hirst doubled the lead after the break with a thunderous shot from outside the box after the home keepe r had parried Waddle’s effort. Thoughts of the three goal lead we had conceded only two days previously when Southampton pulled one back, but we held on and returned home with all three points. Woods, Nilsson, Worthington, Palmer, Anderson, Shirtliff, Wilson, Waddle, Hirst, Bright, Sheridan. Unused subs, Bart-Williams, Harkes, Pressman.
  5. Catch up part 12 - week ending 27th December 1992 A bumper 37,708 crowd saw a feast of goals on Boxing Day as Man Utd visited Hillsborough. A great end to end game saw the spoils shared in a 3-3 draw, although for the home crowd it was ultimately disappointing as Wednesday had led 3-0. First half goals from Hirst and Bright had put Wednesday in a great position and when Sheridan added a third half way through the second half it seemed the three points were in the bag. It was not to be though as a McClair double and a Cantona equaliser with six minutes to go saw the game end all square. A draw was probably fair as the game had been pretty even throughout. Woods, Nilsson, Worthington, Palmer, Anderson, Shirtliff, Wilson (Harkes), Waddle, Hirst, Bright, Sheridan. Unused subs, Bart-Williams, Pressman.
  6. Catch up part 11 - week ending 20th December 1992 Wednesday’s long run without a league win thankfully came to an end this weekend with a 1-0 home win over QPR in front of 23,164. The game was settled in the first half courtesy of a Mark Bright goal. Woods, Nilsson, Worthington, Palmer, Anderson, Warhurst (Bart-Williams), Wilson, Waddle, Hirst, Bright, Sheridan. Unused subs, Pressman, Watson.
  7. It was a rare nil pointer v Franchise FC last weekend, but there is Johnson’s retrospective three points to be added, which takes him level with Gregory at the top. The yellow cards flowed at little at The Valley with Palmer, Smith, Iorfa and Dawson all making their way into the ref’s notebook. Lee Gregory 10 Marvin Johnson 10 Dominic Iorfa 8 Michael Ihiekwe 6 Mark McGuinness 6 Calum Paterson 6 Will Vaulks 6 Reece James 5 Barry Bannan 4 George Byers 4 Tyreeq Bakinson 3 Jack Hunt 3 Michael Smith 3 Josh Windass 3 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 2 Liam Palmer 2 Dennis Adeniran 2 Jaden Brown 1 Cameron Dawson 1 Jay Glover 1 Sylla Sow 1 David Stockdale 1 Mallik Wilkes 1
  8. First point at Charlton is thanks to our 19th clean sheet of the season. It’s 0.2 for Dawson, Iorfa, Flint and Famewo, 0.1 for Palmer, 0.05 for Brown and Adeniran. Palmer also gets two for hitting the winner - and it also gets him the same in Meaningful Goals. Who Got Us The Points Josh Windass 10 Michael Smith 6 Marvin Johnson 5.7 Lee Gregory 5 Lee Palmer 4.85 Barry Bannan 4 George Byers 4 Will Vaulks 4 Mark McGuinness 3.9 Calum Paterson 3.05 David Stockdale 2.2 Alex Mighten 2.2 Malik Wilks 2.05 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Michael Ihiekwe 2 Dominic Iorfa 1.8 Reece James 1.6 Cameron Dawson 1.6 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Ben Heneghan 1 Own Goals 1 Akin Famewo 0.9 Aden Flint 0.6 Jack Hunt 0.45 Jaden Brown 0.05 Dennis Adeniran 0.05 Meaningful Goals Josh Windass 18 Michael Smith 13 Barry Bannan 7 Calum Paterson 6.5 Lee Gregory 6.5 Marvin Johnson 6 George Byers 4.5 Will Vaulks 4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 3.5 Liam Palmer 3.5 Alex Mighten 2.5 Dennis Adeniran 2 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Jaden Brown 2 Mark McGuinness 2 Sylla Sow 0.5 Will Trueman 0.5 Mallik Wilks 0.5
  9. RIP Motty. Enjoyed his commentaries. Him and Barry Davies as the two MOTD main commentators seems like the golden age.
  10. The first home game for an age where the first point isn’t down to the defence. Smith’s penalty got us our first point v Franchise F.C., with Gregory adding the other two. There are plenty of Meaningful Goals points, with only Byers’ late header not getting anything. Gregory gets two points for giving us the lead, Smith one and a half (one for his equaliser and half for putting us two in front) and Windass one for making it 1-1. Who Got Us The Points Josh Windass 10 Michael Smith 6 Marvin Johnson 5.7 Lee Gregory 5 Barry Bannan 4 George Byers 4 Will Vaulks 4 Mark McGuinness 3.9 Calum Paterson 3.05 Liam Palmer 2.75 David Stockdale 2.2 Alex Mighten 2.2 Malik Wilks 2.05 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Michael Ihiekwe 2 Reece James 1.6 Dominic Iorfa 1.6 Cameron Dawson 1.4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Ben Heneghan 1 Own Goals 1 Akin Famewo 0.7 Jack Hunt 0.45 Aden Flint 0.4 Meaningful Goals Josh Windass 18 Michael Smith 13 Barry Bannan 7 Calum Paterson 6.5 Lee Gregory 6.5 Marvin Johnson 6 George Byers 4.5 Will Vaulks 4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 3.5 Alex Mighten 2.5 Dennis Adeniran 2 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Jaden Brown 2 Mark McGuinness 2 Liam Palmer 1.5 Sylla Sow 0.5 Will Trueman 0.5 Mallik Wilks 0.5
  11. Eight goals in our last two games. Three for Windass and two for Smith puts them joint top as leading scorers on 14, and gives them an end of season projection of 19. Byers moves onto six and should get another two, with Bannan and Gregory now on five (alongside Dele-Bashiru and Paterson), and also expected to get another two.
  12. And Stevie Splash the announcer/DJ
  13. Tony Toms has to be fitness coach
  14. A yellow for Bannan v Morecambe. Lee Gregory 10 Dominic Iorfa 7 Marvin Johnson 7 Michael Ihiekwe 6 Mark McGuinness 6 Calum Paterson 6 Will Vaulks 6 Reece James 5 Barry Bannan 4 George Byers 4 Tyreeq Bakinson 3 Jack Hunt 3 Josh Windass 3 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 2 Michael Smith 2 Dennis Adeniran 2 Jaden Brown 1 Jay Glover 1 Liam Palmer 1 Sylla Sow 1 David Stockdale 1 Mallik Wilkes 1
  15. First point v Morecambe was again down to a clean sheet. I assume it was a flat back four - I had to miss tonight, so please correct me if it wasn’t. Dawson, Palmer, Johnson, Flint and Famewo all get 0.2, with Bannan’s early strike adding the other two points. Bannan also gets two points in Meaningful Goals with Windass getting half a point for his first goal. Who Got Us The Points Josh Windass 10 Marvin Johnson 5.7 Michael Smith 5 Barry Bannan 4 George Byers 4 Will Vaulks 4 Mark McGuinness 3.9 Calum Paterson 3.05 Lee Gregory 3 Liam Palmer 2.75 David Stockdale 2.2 Alex Mighten 2.2 Malik Wilks 2.05 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Michael Ihiekwe 2 Reece James 1.6 Dominic Iorfa 1.6 Cameron Dawson 1.4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Ben Heneghan 1 Own Goals 1 Akin Famewo 0.7 Jack Hunt 0.45 Aden Flint 0.4 Meaningful Goals Josh Windass 17 Michael Smith 11.5 Barry Bannan 7 Calum Paterson 6.5 Marvin Johnson 6 Lee Gregory 4.5 George Byers 4.5 Will Vaulks 4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 3.5 Alex Mighten 2.5 Dennis Adeniran 2 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Jaden Brown 2 Mark McGuinness 2 Liam Palmer 1.5 Sylla Sow 0.5 Will Trueman 0.5 Mallik Wilks 0.5
  16. People have suggested similar before, but I think it’s too complicated to work it in. Just part of the keeper’s job is my probably harsh way of looking at it.
  17. Be nice if one of them can make it to 20 - it’ll be the first time since Neil Mellor got there.
  18. Five Wednesday goals (plus an own goal) since the last update, but it took us six games to get them. It was five different scorers too, Vaulks, Johnson, Paterson, Smith and Byers. Smith’s takes him to 12 and an end of season projected 17. Windass, one behind him on 11 is also expected to finish the season one behind on 16. There’s quite a gap following those two with Byers, Dele-Bashiru and Paterson on five. They can expect to bag another two in the remaining 17 games. Bannan and Gregory on four should also grab another two. So, it’s looking unlikely this will be the season we get four over the line. Although as Tank said Byers can’t be ruled out - although five in 17 is asking a lot for a midfielder. Gregory could still make it, Windass’ five in two games shows how quickly a scoring burst from a striker can move things on.
  19. Byers’ goal at Ipswich got us our point. In Meaningful Goals Smith gets two for putting us ahead, Byers half a point for making it 2-0. Who Got Us The Points Josh Windass 10 Marvin Johnson 5.5 Michael Smith 5 George Byers 4 Will Vaulks 4 Mark McGuinness 3.9 Calum Paterson 3.05 Lee Gregory 3 Liam Palmer 2.55 David Stockdale 2.2 Alex Mighten 2.2 Malik Wilks 2.05 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Barry Bannan 2 Michael Ihiekwe 2 Reece James 1.6 Dominic Iorfa 1.6 Cameron Dawson 1.2 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 1 Ben Heneghan 1 Own Goals 1 Akin Famewo 0.5 Jack Hunt 0.45 Aden Flint 0.2 Meaningful Goals Josh Windass 16.5 Michael Smith 11.5 Calum Paterson 6.5 Marvin Johnson 6 Barry Bannan 5 Lee Gregory 4.5 George Byers 4.5 Will Vaulks 4 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 3.5 Alex Mighten 2.5 Dennis Adeniran 2 Tyreeq Bakinson 2 Jaden Brown 2 Mark McGuinness 2 Liam Palmer 1.5 Sylla Sow 0.5 Will Trueman 0.5 Mallik Wilks 0.5
  20. Two points for Marvin Johnson for conceding the penalty at Ipswich, it moves him into joint second. Should there be a retrospective red for his elbow then he’ll move alongside Gregory at the top. There were yellows for Vaulks and Byers. Lee Gregory 10 Dominic Iorfa 7 Marvin Johnson 7 Michael Ihiekwe 6 Mark McGuinness 6 Calum Paterson 6 Will Vaulks 6 Reece James 5 George Byers 4 Tyreeq Bakinson 3 Barry Bannan 3 Jack Hunt 3 Josh Windass 3 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 2 Michael Smith 2 Dennis Adeniran 2 Jaden Brown 1 Jay Glover 1 Liam Palmer 1 Sylla Sow 1 David Stockdale 1 Mallik Wilkes 1

  22. Four yellows in the cup replay defeat at Fleetwood. Gregory increases his lead, with Adeniran, Brown and Hunt also getting a point. Lee Gregory 10 Dominic Iorfa 7 Michael Ihiekwe 6 Mark McGuinness 6 Calum Paterson 6 Reece James 5 Marvin Johnson 5 Will Vaulks 5 Tyreeq Bakinson 3 Barry Bannan 3 George Byers 3 Jack Hunt 3 Josh Windass 3 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 2 Michael Smith 2 Dennis Adeniran 2 Jaden Brown 1 Jay Glover 1 Liam Palmer 1 Sylla Sow 1 David Stockdale 1 Mallik Wilkes 1
