England have named their team to face Australia in the 2nd Ashes Test at Lords tomorrow

England XI: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Bairstow, Broad, Robinson, Tongue, Anderson.

Tongue replaces Ali in the only change from the 1st test loss.

The change means England have gone with pace & the spin option will be Joe Root.

End of day 2

England 271/4 (61 overs)

Had a mini collapse earlier, from 188/1 to 222/4 playing some daft shots & going after the short ball.

England are 138 runs behind going into day 3, hopefully if Brooks & Stokes can put on another 50-60 runs together, then England will be in a pretty decent position.

I’ve been raging about things so far.

The declaration in the first innings. The performance of Bairstow behind the stumps. The issues with Moeen being unable to properly bowl. And the poor bowling in that last session including the delay of Stokes in taking the new ball.

Then, the second test. The flatness of England with the ball. The middle and lower order collapse today. The lack of real pace. The silliness of shot selection - this is test cricket.

If Australia pass 300 in terms of a lead, we’ll lose the second test.

We look like a load of individuals.

Australia look like a team who are together with a plan.

Totally agree KM, the bowling on the 1st day after we won the toss was utterly atrocious, the conditions were perfect for our bowlers & they blew it.

Australia 130/2

Lead England by 221.

Rain stopped play - only thing that'll stop England getting a battering here

Rain bought an end to day 3, I'll happily take the rain as well for the next 48 hours, take the draw & go again at Headingley with some changes to the team.

Andy Zaltzman produced a stat on TMS that said something like England were getting 30% (?) more movement from the ball than Australia but the difference was the Aussies weren't chasing every ball.

Australia warmed up for the Ashes by playing the World Championship final against India. England warmed up by going on the equivalent of an end of season club tour by playing the test dominant nation of Ireland. McCullum and Stokes turned down the chance to play a County Championship select 11.

They would've got a better game against a County Championship select as well, no disrespect to Ireland.

I watched the dismissals of England yesterday & its amateur stuff, like you say England went chasing the Aussies didn't - they played the conditions perfectly, yesterday as bad as England were, the Aussies were superb.

We don't even look like taking a wicket here....

In fact......England have just taken 2 wickets.

Khawaja out for 77 - bowled Broad - caught Sub.

Smith out for 34 - bowled Tongue caught Crawley.

2 new batters at the crease in Head & Green.

Australia 191/4

Lead England by 282 runs

Lunch on day 3

Australia 222/5

Australia lead by 313 runs with 5 wickets in hand.

England could do with a quick wicket or 2 here.

I've also noticed the amount of "extras" we've given away

1st innings 38 runs

2nd innings (so far) 25 runs

Total : 63 runs in extras.

Australia

1st innings 22 runs
