I wouldn't know but I'd love to read it, don't suppose you have a link do you?

At the time Pulis was coming in I stuck up for him.

I'm the past I used to help out on FA coaching courses, being the 'canon fodder' to be coached in practical sessions etc, and the FA regularly brought Pulis in to do guest sessions. The ones that I'd taken part in were a world away from his Stoke team and almost continental in there application of tactical positioning and awareness in regard to pass and movement.

I championed him saying his Stoke team was just one side to him and that if we got the Pulis I'd seen then we'd have made a good choice.

Unfortunately the only side we got was a manager who didn't fancy it from day one and has since said that he should never have taken the job. But I still coach some of the stuff I learned in those sessions and it still works.

  2. VAR worked perfectly in the 2018 world cup because it was used for what it was built for. To review clear and obvious errors.

It wasn't used to scrutinise every goal or spot a player with size 11 boots being offside because he was stood next to a player wearing size 9s and it wasn't all about someone not even in the stadium making the decisions.

Refs have to go back to actually reffing the game, linos have to put their flags up, and real time human decision making and errors have to be brought back into the game. I've no problem VAR staying provided it stays in the background and only gets involved it's a nailed down obvious error. Even then the ref can chose to ignore the advice.

  3. @Alan Finney Luke Dowling was fanfared as our new Technical Director, then left soon after the end of the window as that was always going to be the case but it was never publicly broadcast.

I think Beadell was brought in on a similar contract, mainly due to Rohl not being able to get his own specialist in for January, but after that Beadell has been kept on to help DR and his team source possible future signings. This would makes sense as it takes the pressure off the backroom team and allowed them to concentrate on the immediate. Beadell having been Arsenal's lead U23 scout in Europe and UK will have put him in good stead to do the role

  4. DR wants 14 days each at both the UK and the one in Germany.

Been told that with Middlewood having more work done to it that we're negotiating with Loughborough Uni to use their facilities as DR wants a proper sports science set up. There are alternatives being looked at (including possibly at St Georges) but he wants it outside of Sheffield. We probably won't go over to Germany til after the Euros or at least as close to the final as possible.

The pre season training budget is sizeable

  5. If Fury stays technical and dances behind the jab then he wins. Usyk will be elusive to start with but Fury should eventually find the range if he doesn't get frustrated and starts a brawl first.

  6. You look at his YouTube stuff and his stats before we bought him and he was box to box, almost an 8, a bit like Byers or FDB.

I can't remember if Hutchinson gets injured or it's part of Luhukay's falling out with several players but he gets put in as defensive mid and is all over the shop.

He did get sold down the river many times with Bannan's wanderings and being the only other central midfielder.

I remember one of his best games was at the Sty. Just looked it up (18/19) and he sat as a screen behind Bannan and Penney (yea, I know) and in front of a back 3. He looked comfortable in that formation in that role and he was constantly being talked to by Hector

Groningen play with two deep lying mids with a front 4 diamond with Bacuna (ex Villa and Watford) pulling the strings on the pivot.

  7. In today's 'no shit, Sherlock' news, Swansea are being linked with Macaulay Langstaff but Notts price of £1.5m is putting the owners off which is causing friction between them and Williams. It doesn't look like he's being given a pot to piss in, transfer wise, and they'll be heavy into the loan market

The price isn't putting Wrexham off though and they are expected to test County's resolve.

    For an untested manager though?

Agree, surely clubs would want to judge him over a whole season with the players he brings in.

Unfortunately it tends not to work like that these days.

Clubs will look at his stats, regardless of league position. Then they'll look at his background and previous roles and in DR's case draw comparisons with McKenna and how he pushed on from his first 6 months with Ipswich. Lastly they'll watch and listen to all the player comments about how he's the best coach they've ever had and how his attention to detail is immense and they've never felt so confident going into games. The Windass documentary is a prime example.

I've got a mate who specialises in manager/coach analytics for when clubs are looking and this is what he uses.

  9. Thing is if those figures are true then it puts a price on our management team's heads that could be met by quite a few teams. What if Burnley ditched Kompany or Diche left Everton?

No transfer fee of that size is paid as a lump sum. It could be split over the term of the new contract, or paid up on promotion to the PL, if it's another championship club.

  10. Byers wasn't the same player for us since he missed the back end of the promotion season, and the beginning of this one, with a hamstring injury.

He looked ok for Blackpool while on loan so maybe he's one of those Michael Smith type players. Possibly too good for L1 but possibly not quite good for the championship. Swansea fans thought he wasn't good enough.
