  1. Am I alone in thinking that some of the pitches look a bit dodgy? Looks like some of the French goal area has been relaid.
  2. I don’t think I’d ever heard of Malik Wilks before we were linked. Unusually for me, I fell for all the hype.
  3. We need a striker with pace, even if that means a slightly less clinical finisher. The player we thought Malik Wilks was going to be.
  4. If I was the Portugal manager, I’d have brought CR7 on with three minutes left not 20.
  5. This^^^^. Low ranked team at home. Preferably one that’s struggling in their league.
  6. Chance to give Walker 45 mins. Might be needed against better teams. Back three plus wingbacks. Rice holding (or Dier, but please not Phillips) and Bellingham box-to-box. Front three of Grealish, Wilson, Foden. Drop/rest: Mount, Sterling, Saka, Kane.
  7. There’ll be a good Muslim business man doing a roaring trade in rainbow hats at $20 each, just to have a last minute change of policy and they’re confiscated at the turnstiles.
  8. Be funny if the Glazers bought Liverpool with the money from selling Man U.
  9. Acceptable: 6pts. Although it will also be a bit disappointing. And if we were to win the first two, it would then be unacceptable to lose the next two. So it’s not straightforward.
  10. Infantino having a bit of a rank on behalf of his paymasters. So much for concentrating on the football. I think he’ll be glad to get out of there too. World Cup 2022: Fifa president Gianni Infantino accuses West of 'hypocrisy' https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63687412
  11. I wonder if the Qataris are beginning to regret getting the WC, and that this is showing in their backtracking on certain concessions that they’d previously made. Its cost them a fortune (that they can afford) for which they must have expected an upside, but it’s turned out to be nothing but negative PR since day 1. I can’t see it getting any better for them over the next few weeks.
  12. The only positive memory of playing Oxford is when we scored late on to end that very long sequence of “Sheffield Wednesday nil”s in ‘75. Even then, it only made it 1-1.
  13. ‘Til the end of the season is hardly permanent, even by football standards.
  14. He in a situation a bit similar to Pogba was, but MU seemed to struggled to get rid of him, so maybe Ronaldo will be hanging around for some time too. It’ll depends on whether MU will accept a much reduced transfer fee, and whether CR will accept a big loss on wages. A lose-lose settlement. Unlike Pogba though, I think CR won’t hang around just for the money. MU won’t want him going to a EPL rival, so my bet is a transfer to somewhere in Portugal for a nominal fee on 31st Jan.
  15. Home draw v mid-table opposition. Got to be a winnable tie. As long as it doesn’t distract from the league…#Wemberley, Wemberley.
  16. Ok, look at it this way… Does the ball have to be completely within / on the line to be in the quadrant? or Does the ball have to be completely outside the line to be out of the quadrant? Either could be used as the rule, but the law makers decided the first option. Its a case of, the ball hasn't crossed the line out of the quadrant, so it’s still in it. Hence consistent with the goal line rule.
  17. Because even a mm on the flag side (including on the line) determines that the ball hasn’t crossed the line, I.e. it’s still in the quadrant.
  18. If the knifes come out, will DM be heard lamenting “that’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into, Stanley”. Who needs 80s adverts when there’s 30s Hollywood?
  19. This would be the time when I first started collecting football cards: came in a packet with that strip of awful bubblegum. Anyway, Jimmy Gabriel. And I’m sure Mike Channon had made an appearance by then too.
  20. The first game was the first time that we’d been live on TV (ITV?). Game was played on a Sunday. The replay was my only visit to the Dell. I think we played pretty well but just couldn’t create the clear cut chances, whereas they gave us a lesson in clinical finishing. Steve Williams (soon after went to Arsenal) was the key difference between the teams.
  21. First season I started going to a few away games (mid 70s) I saw us at Chesterfield, Halifax, Mansfield. Lost the lot. But 3-0 at Mansfield was by far the worst. Night match: cold, wet and seemed a long way back to Stocksbridge. Depressing.
