  1. That was a set up where I think Rohl has now learned how to set up away from home, but with a bit of coaching cleverness thrown in.

We went 4-3-3, to 4-4-1-1, to 3-5-2, to 4-2-3-1 on the fly. Palmers job was to play centre to right and give Pol freedom. Vaulks was there to interrupt in the middle of the park. Bannan had a defensive job, but was given a free role. Poveda had to help Pol out when Palmer tucked in and Musaba alternated between 10 and 11 all day.

The key was defensive solidity. Don’t let the gaps appear, stop midfield players affecting the game 20 yards out and let our runners cause issues. And they did. More important, don’t worry about Millwall having the ball 40 yards out because they don’t have the pace our guile to do us if we block holes.

Defensively good today. But it was how we sprang that was more pleasing. We constantly won the ball 40 yards out and had Poveda, Ugbo, Musaba and at least one full back ahead of the ball today.

Second half, we just needed to keep shape. And we did, Ihiekwe is a player who is good in his own 18 yard box and he attracted a lot of ball today. Bernard was good, Vaulks was good, Palmer was good. And then Bannan and Musaba were very good today as was Ugbo.

That is the way we line up every week away from home. Two more defensive midfield players, both attacking full backs and Bannan given freedom with the ball.

    Millwall are a mess though.

I'd take another of these tomorrow

It’s uncanny in terms of parallels. We played Millwall, needing a win, with 15 games left and we had 30 points.

We are playing them today with 26 points with 14 games left and needing a win, but, with a more favourable remaining fixture list than we had in 05/06.

  3. It’s got shades of us at Millwall in 05. Us with a young squad, and some senior pros not good enough for the division. Needing a win.

I’ll take the same result as that day too.

It’s a must win. No two ways about, we have to beat all the teams around us to have any hope of safety. Draws don’t do it.

Not going to hang out the keeper - he is what 19, learning the game and told this is what to do. But seriously first 10 minutes of any game stop fannying around with it

    Staton and Pearson get it

    Us fans get it

Don't invite unnecessary pressure. Play it long get em thinking and then if they are on the back foot a bit then do it

    You are not Pep

It’s different now, and I play a lot of the short sided game now which is all about imposing yourself immediately. But, when I think back, every 11-a-side team I have played for, we always had the mantra of nothing silly for the first 5 mins of each half. Turn the other team round, get your shape right, and grow into it.

Just on style, Rohl is far closer to Arteta and De Zerbi. There is this myth that Pep invites the press, he doesn’t. Arteta and De Zerbi do…

  5. That was a genuinely good second half. No bad displays, and we caused all kinds of problems.

Bannan, Pol V, Palmer and Musaba good.

He’s got his set up away from home now. It’s got to be two more defensive minded midfield players with Bannan and then a front three.

    At Millwall, I’m going with a 4-3-3.

    Beadle

    Pol V, Bernard, Famewo, Johnson

    Palmer, Bannan, Vaulks

    Poveda, BCM, Musaba

We can almost play Pol V as a winger and have Palmer dropping in. After getting it wrong first half, Rohl got it spot on second.

  6. Rohl has got this horribly, horribly wrong.

Our team is only of any use when we get spells with the ball. Without the ball, it’s horrific. We look so easy to play through and around, it’s actually pretty embarrassing. Ugbo, Poveda and Gassama are offering no defensive help at all. Ihiekwe is being torn to pieces. We are pressing with four and the other six are 50 yards further back and they play through us.

  7. Odd half.

They look a good side, and have gone after us. But, Ugbo and Poveda have caused problems and we could be 3-up.

Diaby could have been hooked after 15 minutes, but got better as the game wore on. That said, he’s not comfortable receiving the ball with his back to goal and Bacuna fancies it against him over 5 yards.

Gassama and Valentin have been poor. The Brum right back has taken Gassama apart both ways.

    Crititcal first 10.

Richards is nowt to do with WanDisco now is he? He used their monies to pay the sponsorship.

Aye. He stepped down after the Accounting fraud.

The company's annual report revealed in a section on related party transactions that during the course of last year, WANdisco agreed to pay more than $360,000 (£280,000) to sponsor Sheffield Wednesday FC next season.

The agreement was struck on behalf of EyUp Skills Limited, a company owned by Mr Richards and his wife, Jane.

A further identical sum is payable "contingent on certain post-year end outcomes", the annual report said.

Its all part of the same deal.

  9. I’ll say this.

If we were sat in 13th place, there wouldn’t be a murmur of noise from these supporters who are protesting against Chansiri’s stewardship of the club.

    Not. A. Peep.

When things go wrong on the football pitch, football fans, and Sheffield fans in particular, want to point the finger and make someone culpable.

    How’s the song go?

’We’re a right set of bastards when we lose.’

  10. I’ve said before.

Chansiri’s biggest mistakes were in the past, particularly the points deduction which was 100000% his fault.

Yes, he showed short termism, but what Chairman doesn’t in the Championship.

Yes, he’s made some bad managerial appointments and we’ve signed some bad players. But, that’s normal, and that happens at a way higher level than we are.

I genuinely do think that he has learned his lesson. He backed Moore to the hilt to get us up. Our accounts look way rosier now than they probably have done in a long time in terms of income and expenditure, and he’s clearly keeping a close eye on this.

if he openly admits he wants to sell, someone has to meet the asking price, and do all the paperwork around taking control of the club.

I’m struggling to understand what the protest against his running of the club is supposed to achieve? Are people annoyed that he sacked Moore? Are people annoyed he didn’t splurge 20 million? Are people annoyed about the season ticket prices - when they are in line with the rest of the league? Are people annoyed about the relegation battle - that was expected?

I do agree that Chansiri needs to clarify what his long term vision is, it’s not a matter of appeasement, but more related to us as supporters understanding what the end goal is and how he thinks we can achieve it.

  11. I’ll make a bold prediction.

Five of the next six are against teams around us.

If we pick up less than 6 points in those games. Chansiri will fire Röhl.

Chansiri has not planned for league one football next year.

Now to flip that, Rohl gets a free hit this season. Aside from the four signings in Jan, this is not his team, he didn’t have a say on who stayed and went in the summer, played no role in pre-season and hasn’t defined what a long term strategy is. And I’d like to see that.

I said when we appointed him that whilst we want to stop up, it was unlikely due to the fitness and quality of the squad, but what I wanted to see was a plan of how we will play. We’ve got that, and at times we have looked a good side. So, he’s earned a full pre-season and a go next year regardless of what division we end up in.

But… I am not convinced he will get that chance.

  12. I watched it last night and the two centre halves and two central midfield players were awful.

Coventry spotted that and went right down the middle at us. Diaby and Vaulks were so slow to react, that by the time they’d stepped out, it had created a pocket of space behind them and they were caught in no mans land. Second half. They stayed in, and constantly the two centre halves and two midfield players got in each others way.

That was then compounded by our two centre halves being susceptible to short passes down the sides even with the full backs narrow.

Because the row central midfield players were so deep. We didn’t keep any possession at all and we even had scenarios where wingers were having to come into the centre of midfield to just see the ball.

Last night was a combination of league one players dealing with a very mobile good Championship side, but because of Fridays monster, not really being able to do much else.
