  1. I’ve gone for a match winner in Musaba. When he’s at it, we are so much more of a threat.

Vaulks has been good, Valentin looks like a good championship full back, if Johnson was 25 and not 32, he’d be worth a lot of money. Beadle has been great, Ugbo looks a player.

I think that Bannan has been good, in a far more disciplined role alongside Vaulks. He’s our best footballer and we keep the ball so much better with him in the team. Goals and assists have dried up because he’s doing a lot of the work further back with control. He’s also driving a midfield press. He’s been good under Rohl.

But, he doesn’t win player of the year.

  2. Just a very controlled display for 70 minutes, you do that every week over the course of a season - you’ll not be far off.

First half, very disciplined with and without the ball. Second half, Rohl clearly told the front three to press like their lives depended on it, and we caused chaos.

The third goal and the changes caused our levels to drop a bit, but Beadle and the back three were very good, as was Vaulks in front.

I thought Iorfa, Beadle, Vaulks, Bannan and Bernard were very good. I thought Musaba and Ugbo were excellent.

A point does it next weekend, but we have to go and try and win. So it’s not over yet, we need a Hull win tonight to pile the pressure on Norwich.

  3. That statement from Forest yesterday was embarrassing. But, to be fair, they have doubled down and demanded VAR audio for the three decisions today. So they are sticking to guns.

Having seen all three, I’m astonished two weren’t given, and the third was debateable.

But herein lies the issue. The officials are literally untouchable, they don’t have to explain decisions, they don’t have to speak to managers and players post game, they don’t have to meet the media, but more critically, any criticism regardless of performance leads to a player or manager fine, whilst the prem refs get a demotion BUT no loss of earnings.

It’s the only profession I can remember when no matter what they do or how bad they are, they are not accountable in any way shape or form.

And our referees are fucking shit. For every good one, there are 3 bad ones.

  4. We did a job on them.

It wasn’t sticking first half, but second half, the balls were less straight, we pressed them in wide areas, and we won all the second balls. Just good, old fashioned football basics.

We scored two great goals, and the freak from the keeper, I still, to this minute don’t what he was trying to do with the attempt at recover the situation. They missed one good chance but rest ot the half was us having control with and without the ball.

Palmer, Famewo, Johnson, Bannan and Vaulks were good.

We need to defend like that the next two weekends, if we do, we’ll stop up.

  5. It was a cracker. I feared for Garcia due to his unhinged behaviour this past 5 months and the wild stuff that’s happened this fight week, and the fact that he blew the weight.

But, he was really good last night, hurt Haney multiple times. I genuinely think that the ref could have counted more knock downs, should have taken at least 2 points off Haney and had good reason to pull Haney out of there.

  6. We’ve got an embarrassment of riches in attacking areas.

Conceivably, we could play Rice and Bellingham in a two. And then line up Foden, Palmer and Saka behind Kane.

The two players, who at the minute, are most at risk are probably Rashford and Grealish. Bowen and Gordon have really had good seasons in terms of numbers. Maddison will go too.

  7. I don’t blame Rohl for wanting to play out. The passes we were not making were not due to an aggressive press, but simply due to player mistakes. If Norwich were pressing like animals, and we persisted, you could blame Rohl, but they didn’t. They literally just had to stand still and we gave them the ball back.

I cannot accept that any professional footballer in this era cannot find a fellow player from 10 yards away under minimal pressure. If a player can’t, they need to sit in the stand and pack it in.

The fact that Rohl had to go ale house in the second half is an indictment of our players inability to do what most 14 year olds can do.

  8. A proper ale house second half led by Callum Paterson. He was outstanding.

We were very fortunate in that we absolutely should have been 5-0 down before we scored our first, but, the effort was there even if the quality wasn’t. And when we got the first, you could feel we would get a second, Norwich were creaking physically.

    Massive point.

  9. First goal. Bambo knocks a simple 10 yard pass, 5 yards short. From the throw, he then gets caught not watching and they score. Immediately after, Famewo knocks a simple 10 yard pass to Bannan 2 yards short. They should score. Then, Beadle knocks a simple 10 yards pass 3 yards wide of his target. They score again. Later, Ihiekwe knocks a pass across his back four 10 yards behind his target and out for a throw in on the edge of our box.

Every single pass, most people on here would make them. It is inexcusable for professional footballers to be unable to complete them. And I mean inexcusable. None of the players were facing a press when they gave it away.

  10. Deserved it today. Better side, went a bit longer today and picked up the seconds. I thought, despite the miss, Windass was decent, Bannan and Palmer did well. But, Gassama gets MOM today, although I thought Bambo and Smith were good too.

Aside from them hitting the bar, they’ve not created a lot. And we’ve had decent possession all day.

7 points from a possible 15 will do it.

  11. If we go down, I don’t see any scenario at all where Danny Röhl is coach next year.

    1. Chansiri will look to blame the coaching staff for this given that, in his eyes, he’s had 35 games to save us.

    2. I can’t see that Rohl will want the fun of League One, and his stock will be high enough to get a second division club in the UK or in Germany. He’s largely going to come out of this blameless unless he doesn’t pick up another win this season.

  12. There are several things we need to do away from home…

    1. No more 3-4-3.

    2. Ugbo has to play down the middle and not wide.

    3. One of the back three has to be Liam Palmer if Bernard isn’t fit.

    4. If Vaulks is fit, the base of our midfield has to be Palmer and Vaulks. You can then mix the three ahead of them, but Poveda has to be always playing. I’d even be tempted to go with a 3-4-2-1 and have Bannan and Poveda behind Ugbo.

    5. Gassama and Musaba are late subs away from home when we get penned in. But you can’t start either of them. We don’t have the ball which means they are passengers.

    6. I want to see evidence of set piece work from the training ground. Röhl has not addressed it, no plan for defending corners and no plan to attacking them. You put the ball in the right area in our box, and you will get a chance.

  13. I can accept teams just being better than us. I can accept opposition players being largely better than ours. I can even accept being rolled over because we’ve tried to have a go.

What I can’t accept is teams doing the basic running bits better than us, I can’t accept us not attempting to put a body on someone, I can’t accept us winning the ball back and not one player wanting to make a forward run. I can’t accept players not being WILLING to get back into defensive shape. I am not willing to accept players jogging instead of sprinting to get back behind the ball. And I can’t accept a coach literally not doing a minutes work on trying to both defend and attack set pieces.

That was a side a today who is thinking of its future away from S6.

When you are in trouble, you have to work hard. We did not today against a very average Boro side with half a team missing.

There were some truly abysmal displays today. Vaulks, Bannan, Johnson, Ugbo, Musaba, Famewo.

Dire. That was as half hearted as I have ever seen.
