Who Got Us The Points & Meaningful Goals 2021-22

Recommended Posts

Pre-amble for new posters/readers

The rules for Who got us the points are;

In a draw. The player who scores the goal that secures a draw (our first in a 1-1 draw, our second in a 2-2 draw etc) is determined as having earnt us that point; or the defence in the case of a 0-0 draw. The defence's point is shared amongst the keeper and the back four (0.2 points each). In the event of a defensive substitution if the substituted player has completed 70 minutes he'll still get the full 0.2 and the defender who replaces him won't get anything. Anything less than 70 minutes and he'll get 0.1 as will his replacement.
For any games where we employ a back five, the keeper and the three centre halfs will be credited with 0.2, the wing backs with 0.1.

In a win. The player who scores the goal that made sure we got a draw (our first in a 2-1 or 3-1 win, our second in a 3-2 or 4-2 win) gets one point or the defence in the case of a to nil win, and the player who scores the winner (the second in a 2-1 or a 3-1 win etc) gets two points (as he turned a draw into a win).

The Meaningful goals table will follow similar rules but the score at the time of the goal will be the key factor, so a goal that gives us a lead will earn the player two points, regardless of the final result, whilst a goal that puts us level will get a point. A goal that gives us a two goal cushion will get half a point, as will a goal that reduces the deficit to a single goal. Goals that put us three (or more) goals to the good will be considered as just the icing on the cake and won't be rewarded, similarly goals that bring us to within two (or more) goals of the opposition will be considered as mere consolations and hence also not credited. For this table cup goals will count.

Hunt’s second goal in as many matches got us our first point v Wimbledon, with Gregory’s injury time winner adding the other two points.

In Meaningful Goals both get two points as both goals put us in the lead.

MK’s fight back meant that Bannan’s wonder strike was the winner, with Gregory’s getting us our first point.

In Meaningful Goals it’s two points for Berahino, half for Gregory, and nothing for Bannan. Today is an argument for those who were arguing that a goal putting you three up should be worth something earlier in the season. I’ll mull that over before the start of next season.

Our first point v Crewe was down to the clean sheet. The defensive changes were after the cut off point so it’s 0.2 for Peacock-Farrell, Palmer, Storey and Johnson, and 0.1 for Hunt and Mendez-Laing. Gregory’s penalty added the other two points. It’s also worth two points In Meaningful Goals.

Gregory’s hat trick got us all three points at Fleetwood, and earned him a massive seven points in Meaningful Goals. His first and third put us in front so are worth two each with him getting one for the equaliser.

He now has a big lead in both tables.

Gregory’s 16th goal of the season won us our first point v Portsmouth, with Berahino’s adding the other two.

They both get the same in Meaningful Goals, with Storey getting half a point for giving us a two goal lead.

Mr Cheat. Excellent work as always.

Has a defender ever won this competition? If not, any idea of the highest score ever posted by one? 🙂

Cheers.

I’ve not kept any records, but I’m pretty sure  they haven’t. It would need a Nigel Pearson 90-91 type scoring defender to have any chance.

The first season I did it I treated the defence as an entity,  but found that even in a poor season they’d win or be there about, which was why I changed it to the 0.2 each rule.

They’d have got 16 this season, only missing out by a single point to Gregory’s excellent effort.
