Who Got Us The Points 2023-24

cheat

Recommended Posts

Welcome to this season's Who got us the points.

The rules for Who got us the points are;

In a draw. The player who scores the goal that secures a draw (our first in a 1-1 draw, our second in a 2-2 draw etc) is determined as having earnt us that point; or the defence in the case of a 0-0 draw. The defence's point is shared amongst the keeper and the defence. For a flat back four it is a straight 0.2 points each, for a back five it’s 0.2 for the keeper and the centre halves, and 0.1 for the wing backs. In the event of a defensive substitution if the substituted player has completed 70 minutes he'll still get the full 0.2 and the defender who replaces him won't get anything. Anything less than 70 minutes and he'll get 0.1 as will his replacement (or 0.05 for the wing backs).

In a win. The player who scores the goal that made sure we got a draw (our first in a 2-1 or 3-1 win, our second in a 3-2 or 4-2 win) gets one point or the defence in the case of a to nil win, and the player who scores the winner (the second in a 2-1 or a 3-1 win etc) gets two points (as he turned a draw into a win).

The Meaningful goals table will follow similar rules but the score at the time of the goal will be the key factor, so a goal that gives us a lead will earn the player two points, regardless of the final result, whilst a goal that puts us level will get a point. A goal that gives us a two goal cushion will get half a point, as will a goal that reduces the deficit to a single goal. Goals that put us three (or more) goals to the good will be considered as just the icing on the cake and won't be rewarded, similarly goals that bring us to within two (or more) goals of the opposition will be considered as mere consolations and hence also not credited. For this table cup goals will count.

There’s no points onto the main table of course from the opening day defeat v Southampton; but Gregory’s equaliser gives him a point in Meaningful Goals.

Still no points onto the main table, but Delgado’s first Wednesday goal gets him two points in Meaningful Goals as it gave us the lead at Hull. Smith’s consolation doesn’t get him anything.

And we’re off. Our point at Leeds was down to our clean sheet. With a 5-4-1 in operation that means 0.2 points for the keeper and the three centre halves, and 0.1 for the wing back. With Iorfa coming on (just) before the cut off point, he and Paterson share the spoils for the right wing back slot.

Another point!

The point from the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield is down to the clean sheet of course, so it’s the keeper and defence that get the credit. The defensive change came after the 70 minute cut off point for its 0.2 for Dawson, Ihiekwe, Iorfa and Bernard, and 0.1 for Palmer and James.

At last. An update to this table.

Our first point v Rotherham was thanks to the clean sheet. The defensive substitution was after the cut off point, so it’s 0.2 for Dawson, Iorfa, Diaby and Bernard, and 0.1 for Paterson and James. Smith added the other two points.

In Meaningful Goals Smith gets two for his opener, and half a point for putting us two in front.

The first point at Stoke was thanks to our clean sheet. The defensive substitution came before the cut off point, so Dawson, Palmer, Diaby and Bernard get 0.2, with Famewo and Ihiekwe getting 0.1.

Musaba’s late strike added the other two points, and it puts him top of the pile.

He already topped Meanigful Goals, and his two points give him an impressive six points for his three goals.

Musaba keeps up his impressive record of all his goals giving us the lead, and as a result moves even further ahead in Meaningful Goals.

A clean sheet at Preston for our first point. With a couple of defensive formation changes how to distribute the point is a little complicated. The easy part is 0.2 for Dawson, Ihiekwe and Bernard as they played the 90 minutes at keeper and centre half respectively. Famewo did 35 minutes at centre half., so is due 0.1 as is Palmer for his final 24 minutes there. By my calculation Valentin and Johnson should get 0.15 as they did 59 minutes as wing backs (0.05) and 31 minutes as full backs (0.1);  but all that adds up to 1.1 - therefore I’m giving Valentin and Johnson 0.1. If the accountants on here can tell me where I went wrong here then I’m all ears.

The easy bit is that Johnson’s strike added the other two points, and that he also gets the same in Meaningful Goals.

The first point at Millwall was courtesy of the clean sheet. I’m taking the formation as having been 3-5-2. Shout up if you think that’s wrong. So it’s 0.2 for Beadle, Palmer, Bernard, and Ihiekwe, and 0.1 for Valentin and Johnson.

Ugbo’s goal turned it into three points.

In Meaningful Goals Ugbo gets two points, and Musaba half for putting us 2-0 up.

16 hours ago, Kaveman said:

I thought it was a back 4 for the majority of the game today. With Marv and Palmer full backs most of the time.

It switched up a bit, but it was still a 3.

Just looked like it as they put nearly everything down their right, so Johnson was on the back foot, especially once Norton Cuffy came on. There were a couple of balls down the left where Pol went to press, but he was still playing wingback. They tried the diagonal ball a few times, but Pol cut out nearly all of them.

A clean sheet at Rotherham got us our first point. Any fluid formations play havoc with this table, especially for a 4-4-2 dinosaur like me. So, I’m going to go with whatever Sky shows as the formation from now on, and they had it as a 3-5-2 today. The Iorfa/Valentin change was before the cut off point so the spoils for the right wing back slot are shared between them. All of which means that our first point is distributed like this. Beadle 0.2, Palmer 0.2, Ihiekwe 0.2, Famewo 0.2, Johnson 0.1, Valentin 0.05 and Iorfa 0.05.

The other two points are a lot simpler, and of course go to Ugbo.

He also gets two points in the secondary table, and moves joint top of that with Musaba.

A clean sheet for our first point at QPR. The left back change came after the cut off point, so it’s 0.2 for Beadle, Iorfa, Famewo, Diaby, and Ihiekwe.

Gassama added the other two points.

Gassama also gets two points in Meaningful Goals, and Musaba half a point for making it 2-0.

Smith’s equaliser got us our unlikely point v Norwich.

Ihiekwe’s first Wednesday goal gets him half a point in Meaningful Goals as it brought us within a goal of the opposition. Smith gets one for equalising.

Windass’ tremendous finish earned us our first point at Blackburn, with Johnson’s nicely worked effort turning it into three.

As both goals gave us the lead, they are both worth two points in Meaningful Goals.

A clean sheet for our fist point v West Brom. The defensive changes were after the 70 minute cut off point, so it’s 0.2 for Beadle, Palmer, Iorfa and Bernard, and 0.1 for Valentin and Johnson.

Musaba turned it into three points.

In Meaningful Goals it’s two points for Musaba, and half a point for Ugbo.

A clean sheet for our first point at Sunderland. The defensive change of Valentin off and Diaby on came before the 70 minute mark; so with Iorfa moving to wing back at that point the point is allocated like this.

Beadle, Palmer, Bernard 0.2, Iorfa 0.15, Johnson 0.1, Diaby 0.1, Valentin 0.05.

Plamer also gets two points for his goal that turned the draw into a win.

In Meaningful Goals, in addition to Palmer’s two, Windass gets half a point for putting us two ahead.
