Last season Nigel Clough had a proper kick off as they got Jarred Gillett in the L2 final. Story goes that he got yellow carded in the tunnel while they were waiting to go out. Gillett turns to both managers and says "just business as usual boys" Clough replies "no it's fucking not. We've gone 55 games without this shit and now you're here with a telly to help you" Gillett just pulls the card out and doesn't say anything back. The card was rescinded at half time as the EFL didn't want to afford Clough the opportunity to tell the world why he'd been booked before the game. Last season's L1 final ref was Simon Hooper. It's a smack in the face for all lower league officials. Well done for getting through the season but we don't think any of you are good enough to handle this occasion so we're switching the TVs on and giving it to a higher up ref.
JBO
If we're in it will we get Craig Pawson?

HoylandOwl
Did anyone see Jamie O'Hara's suggestion that we shouldn't be playing a two legged semi and should go straight to a final? Or summat like that?

Definitely should t be going straight to the final unless you give another play off place and 4 teams fight for the right to play a 3rd place team? owl71
I’d do it a bit like the National League. Six teams go into playoffs, with the two highest placed getting a bye to the semi finals. Every match is a one off tie with the higher placed team getting home advantage. If you finish 8th and then win away against three teams who finished above you…then fair play. Tylluan
Personally I hate the way it's done in the National League and the play off system in general. You've got a full season to get promoted, not finish 6th or 7th and progress via a cup competition

Where you finish in a league is where you finish, if that is a promotion place great, if not unlucky. BUT THAT DOESN'T CREATE EXTRA REVENUE BY BEING ABLE TO SCREW MORE MONEY OUT OF THE FANS. IT ALSO DOESN'T CREATE THE CHANCE TO USE THE WHITE ELEPHANT THAT IS WEMBLEY AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
mkowlthesexynewversion
It also avoids the season ending in February for half the division. Problem is people reminisce with rose tinted glasses and forget all the shit Play offs are fine and no need to tinker in the slightest.
Tank_Owl2,0
The playoffs are here to stay and tbh I think it helps keep the interest for longer for more people. However I have always thought the 3rd/4th playing away in the 1st leg seems odd, even if the stats don’t always back it up. I think it should be one game semi finals with 3rd and 4th at home because they finished highest and it gives them a small advantage which they’ve earnt by finishing 3rd /4th. The final shouldn’t be at Wembley for the playoffs but obviously it’s about revenue
