I've been thinking about this... They kicked off again at the end of the transfer window. Their reasoning was that they'd gone quiet to give DC a chance to back the manager and put together what we needed. Because, in their view we'd had a crap window, as soon as the bell tolled they were justified in setting off again...so they did. Now it's becoming clear that we actually had a more than decent window, especially in relation the the clubs around us, are they big enough to admit that they were wrong to start again? Geoff? The infrastructure just isn't there for that and "Sheffield" doesn't have any cache on the global gig circuit, not in the way that the cities that you mention do (even chuffing Birmingham). And Sheffield City Council doesn't have the will/means/ambition to change it, which is pretty much what you're saying.

You're confusing Sheffield with London, Paris, Amsterdam etc It will never get global superstars who sell out 40k plus arenas because it doesn't have any. The bands that play Motorpoint will quite happily stay at the hotel I've just quoted (& others like it) and they have. It's not an issue.

Bradford Live opens at the end of this year, in the old Odeon building. It's a beautiful building and it's being lovingly restored. Once opened it'll be similar to the Hull Bonus arena in size and will get the mid size bands/legacy acts. It'll also feed people really well into the areas of regeneration in the city centre, which tbf look pretty good. If Bradford can do it, why can't Sheffield? Yes the Bradford Council have shown vision but there's no reason why Sheffield can't use some forward thinking.

For those who think that Leeds is a paradise, it isn't. Many years ago, I was the Manager of one of the big retail units in this video. The turnover was one of the highest in the country, such a busy busy shop, sad it see it boarded up now. Leeds high street are like most other cities in the UK, although the nightlife does redeem it. There again, some of the worst poverty you can witness is to be found in the outlying areas, eg Harehills, Gipton, Little London, Beeston...IMO worse than anything you'll see in Sheffield.

The Berties losing every week, being in hock and in a mess when they do go down, that's progress is it? *fwiw, if we could do what Burnley did, go up, get the money, go down and go straight back up again, I'd be all for that. Or a Brentford, where they have a system and if the Manager leaves the new one picks up that system. But we wouldn't have that, Rohl is a an up and coming manager and at some point someone will take him off us, but we won't continue with his system, DC doesn't have that consistency in him.

I have a soft spot for Rochdale, always have had. It's a proper club and ground, of it's type. I hope they survive but football in that part of the world is in a state...Dale, Oldham, Bury...Accrington are lucky to have the owner they have even though he's a bit of a tit sometimes.

I've criticised this group right from their first awfully drafted statement, all the way through their spreading of rumours as facts, borderline racism, targeting players, piss poor protests and lying on Twitter then pretending they didn't. But I do think the last protest was done pretty well and maybe gives them some direction to go in. Maybe having got rid of Boy Wonder they got someone in who was competent 😂* *Geoff - I know you're reading...it's a joke, ok?

My company has a contract with the local council. We supply drivers with enhanced DBS to drive children and adults with special needs to schools and adult centres. The entire system is under constant stress to the point of nearly breaking down. 5 years ago there were 1500 children in the area with SEN, now there are 3500+ and rising, putting a huge resource cost on a council that basically can't afford it. I think they have about 200 vehicles and I know that this week 43 of them are in the workshop either for repair on inspection. Very few of them will come out quickly because that council operated workshop also does the refuse trucks, cans etc and there's a huge backlog and very few staff there, plus a shortage of parts. The people responsible for planning are just getting by minute to minute, firefighting the whole time, until it takes its toll on them too. I've done quite a lot of shifts to help out when they've been desperate and it's a massively rewarding job. You're driving much of the time (but not always) in some of the poorest areas of the city, the depravation is plain to see. But the positive impact on the kids themselves and their family's of the kids getting to school is lovely to see. Do I think that the system is being played? By and large, No. All the kids I've seen have genuine special needs, many are non verbal, some in wheelchairs, others with Autism, severe ADHD and much more. Most of the time they're just great kids, often very intelligent, sometimes not, but honestly, it's usually a joy of a job to do. What I don't understand is what has driven the huge increase in numbers of SEND across the country. I really don't think that it's down to parents playing the system, certainly not in the area I'm in. But it's causing massive financial pain to councils when they can least afford it. Politicians are going to have to start looking at it soon, but hopefully without causing culture wars on the subject. It needs real experts in the field to offer analysis and find solutions otherwise the system will break. I saw a clip from a council meeting somewhere (on X) and it was horrible. Councillors glibly talking about the costs of SEND, with no insight, making assumptions and highlighting their prejudices. It's a shame because with some actual experts in the room, they might have been able to understand the problems a bit better. I've tried to keep politics out of this, because in my view the issue needs to be reviewed thoroughly, but when you talk about council funding, kids with special needs, teachers, poverty and immigration etc, entrenched political views come to the front and the conversation gets derailed. I'm not an expert on this - it's just a viewpoint from somebody who has been working in the system and having meetings with the transport management for the last 2 years.
