Ban incoming for Chris Maguire?

I understand the rules and all that and I totally agree players shouldn't be placing bets on games they play in, but not sure why it would matter if Chris Maguire had a tenner on City to beat Newcastle

With so much movement of players and coaches between clubs it’s not improbable that someone could influence, via a mate or an ex-team mate, a game that they’re not directly involved in. So just to ban betting on games involving someone’s club doesn’t go far enough. Having a blanket ban eliminates any possibility of grey areas.

If a player wants to bet on football they can be under no doubt that it could damage their career. If they are so desperate to gamble then what about cricket or rugby or horses or seeking help with their addiction?

But wasn’t there games including them that were wagered on?

Didn’t Swan and co break the law, (no idea which law) whereas a player better on a distant match just breaks FA regs?

Right

Players awash with cash aren't allowed to bet but us punters are laden with betting ads whilst watching the league sponsored by a betting company with clubs wearing betting sponsored shirts.

Try watching a t.v. highlights programme.
