This does appear to be a technical breach rather than too sinister ie concealing information in the hope you are promoted before you can get punished.

However if you were seeing clubs one year into parachute payments in trouble, then the whole system is fooked.

I think they've also dipped into the Macquarie trust fund for desperate owners.

It's late filing of the FFP paperwork thats caused it rather than cash flow.

Unlike Wigan who have failed to pay their players for the 4th time in a year.

As much they have only filed draft accounts

And something I hadn't realised - that BHP had not sought re-appointment as the Wednesday auditors. 

Citing the retirement of the partner with football sector expertise 

I suspect with everything that went on with Wednesday, the EFL etc and the accounting treatment of the stadium sale being challenged as wrong, that the "retirement" may have been accelerated by the stress of it all

To be honest having had dealings with BHP in the past they would not be my choice as auditors
