Not on any kind of social media anymore, personally think the negatives far outlay the positives now a days.

Everyone is different but mentally I'm far better off it, then on it.

    You are here, aren't you?

Unfortunately Owlsonline or Owlstalk are not better than Twitter or Facebook, are they?

But I agree with you... it far better for the mental health and mood to avoid social media (but I can't resist)

I don't think AB condones systematic bullying that drives people to suicide or leaves them at a low ebb.

However too many take offence to the slightest comment and find an insult where none is actually meant and this leads to the person making it getting piled on, the over reaction is as bad as some of the so called bullying.

I am also absolute against the modern "political correctness" and the offence taking, which happens all the time.

But the bullying and the defamation is worse. Read what people say about our manager and players  ... there are words, which I would never use against my worst enemy. Some of those players are still kids!
(But as I said... it's not a football topic. It's the whole society, which doesn't value the wellbeing of other people anymore)

The real problem is there are people that find offense in anything and everything as a means to silence what would be normal debate.

The law, and I don't mean the fatuous "non-crime hate speech" events, provides strict parameters in what may and may not be said. Just because you disagree or find it offensive does not and SHOULD NOT, restrict any persons right to free speech.

Fuck em don't like what I say, then simply unfollow block or mute

What do you consider as free speech?

Do you consider insulting people, driving them to suicide, robbing their confidence, etc, etc as acts of free speech?

If yes, do you act the same way in "real live"?

(BTW: I do love a debate and I consider free speech essential, but I don't feel the need to offend anybody)

  4. Unfortunately the social media has become so hostile, that it drives people away.

The negative people, who abuse the manager, the players and fellow owls are so loud that they overshadow the friendly people. If you are going online to have a nice and friendly chat, it's really difficult to find a place, which is not overloaded with negativity.  So the "happy owls" stay quiet and the "angry owls" rule the media.

Whilst I find this development sad and worrying, I am even more concerned about the development in the "real world".

You can avoid social media, but there is no way to avoid the negativity and aggressive behaviour in the real world.

That's also valid for the manager and players. The negativity and boos in the stadium, the tense atmosphere and the groans when the ball is in our half might cost us points.

IMO we won't be able to stop this development - the society has lost its values!

I see your point too, I don't WANT us to lose. I never do, but it's one that I'll just shrug my shoulders and go 'meh' if we do. And IMO that'll be the likely reaction from most, because our focus is the league..

I focus on the league as well. No doubt about that.

However, I do like the competition anyway.. especially at the early stages I see it as a great opportunity to give the fringe players some game time and also give us the opportunity to see them and a few youngsters.

At the later stages it loses this advantage and it becomes a problem due to our usually long list of injured players, but then the excitement of winning anything kicks in for me (at least, if we progress)

Well maybe if you had been going for 35 years mostly week in week out your tolerance would dip.

I guess you might be right with that,

but as soon as I ever wish my team to be demoralised with a 3:0 defeat, I will stop watching football completely and I will never call myself a supporter again.

(a scrappy drop out of a competition you don't like - fine; but why would anybody want us to lose this badly??)

The issue is there'll never be uniform support for clubs playing in the Papa John's, Checkatrade, Johnstone's Paint trophy or whoever it's sponsored by. For a host of reasons.

I don't want us to be in it, it highlights where we are in the league ladder and it's a competition which is unneeded and unwanted across the board, also the inclusion of the under 21's in it was the final nail in the coffin for it for others. Believe me, when I had the pleasure of working in football and getting to the final, and seeing my employers win it, did I enjoy it? Absolutely, it will live with me till I'm no more, but that was purely personal, in that I had a moment on the pitch in front of 40,000 that I'd only thought would ever happen when I was in my slumber, dreaming away... But the perfect demonstration of how it's not needed/wanted, there were fans of the club who boycotted the tournament, meaning they didn't go any of the games including the final and it was the club's first EVER visit to Wembley in over 100 years. So that's the type of anti-feeling for it.

As a Wednesday fan, do I want us to lose? No. But conversely, do I want us in the competition? No, and that's because it's a distraction to the task at hand, it's easy to see how that's the case too for the team/manager with the changes in the games being as many as possible (yes he tinkers in league games but not as wholesale). Watch the side we select tomorrow night, it'll be very different.

It's going to always be a polarising competition, and it's something that won't change.

I understand that some people do not want us to be in this competition. I don't question the motives of those people at all.

But there is a difference of wanting us out of that competition (maybe by a draw or a slight defeat) and somebody wishing us to lose 3:0

A 3:0 defeat would not only mean that we are out of the competition, but it would give the same people a reason for their "Moore out" calls  (I am not referring to a certain poster, but just in general)

A 3:0 defeat would also considerably harm the spirit in the team and might affect the league games as well

OOH A VERY early match thread.....

    Welcome back @Germanbird 🤣

However, I suspect there'll be people that don't care about this match..... I aint overly fussed, but as we're playing I want us to win and I'll be watching.

Yeah, I am aware that it's a dangerous topic. I nearly got banned for opening the Matchday thread and poor Professor Plum got the ban for contributing in the discussion. But as I am a brave girl, I though I risk it again.

I am hoping for a win and I'm already looking forward to seeing all of you at Wembley.

A friend of mine went last season to the final and enjoyed it a lot - although it was only his "second team", who lost on the day.

    He's taking the piss.

Being good in the 3rd tier is hardly fucking something to be proud of.

I believe that you can be proud of your achievements, no matter, where you are and who you are. The world would be such a sad place, if achievements would only count, if you are at a certain school, in a certain country or in a certain league.

Winning anything should always be enjoyable and pride should not be reserved for the Premiere League or Oxbridge.

What a time to be a Wednesday fan.

Liam Palmer - Player of the Month

Barry Bannan - in team of the week

Darren Moore - highest percentage win rate

    Wednesday most wins in 2022

Lee Bullen Wednesday Legend - Manager of the Month in Scottish 2nd Tier

Just need an award for Cameron Dawson to finish Reesh off.

Best week of awards since I got a Bronze Medal in the Cubs Swimming Gala - not half bad for a 21 year old.

    I love those stats.

It's so much more fun winning something than all the negativity and point deduction in the past.

    Just watched that training video.

I made a post a couple of weeks or so ago, around Moore being able to attract players. I questioned whether one of the reasons might be because the players get an easy ride and don’t get pushed in training like, as an example, a Howard Wilkinson squad of players would.

I think it was GermanBird who challenged me on it, asking if I’d got some insider knowledge on the post I made to back up my comments. Well, after seeing that video, there’s the evidence if that is what typifies a training session! I thought I was watching something from a holiday camp, not a professional football outfit. It was just a laugh and a big joke. Did any of those players even break a sweat?

I believe that these training videos are made at the beginning of the training session during the warm up phase.  I guess that they never show us any proper training as this would be seen by the opponent as well.

Therefore I doubt that we can judge the training by that video, we only can judge the marketing department, which didn't to a good job this time to release a video like this right now.
