HoylandOwl
https://www.swfc.co.uk/news/2022/april/u18-report-watford-0-0-owls/ The Owls Under-18s were held to a goalless draw at Watford on Saturday. With Wednesday looking for a return to winning ways following defeat to Barnsley the previous week, it proved a frustrating afternoon for the youngsters. The 18s remain well in the hunt for a top two spot with four games left of the campaign. As things stand the Owls are third, three points behind Barnsley in second spot. Academy manager Steven Haslam told swfc.co.uk: “There were a few changes to our regular line-up, one or two weren’t involved because they were travelling with the Under-23s for the fixture with Swansea. “We’re getting towards the end of the season now and we like to see the players stepping up where possible. “The Under-16s up into the Under-18s and same with the 23s. We want to stretch them as much as possible. For the 16s soon to start their scholarship, we want them to become accustomed to the level of the game. “In terms of Watford on Saturday, it was pretty even but we were disappointed not to win it, we hit the woodwork twice, were dominant defensively and managed to snuff out any chances. “We are in the business of player development and part of that is the mindset and mentality to win games. It’s the final push now and it’s still possible to achieve a top two finish and get into the play-offs.” SWFC: Hall, Fusire, Maltby, Flannery, Sesay, Kilheeney, Asfha, Phuthi (Al-Jahadhmy 78), Yogane, Davidson, Maciag (Wassell 64)
