This was a picture from a Sunday paper of the Ken Knighton winning goal in the 88th minute against Bolton in 1974

I got a proper print of it from the paper - that's me circled just above the keeper's head

When I first looked at the pic, I thought it was somebody's guess at a Spot the Ball competition.

Then I read your post... and spotted the actual ball 😕

  2. Travel fuckups no. 146b...

I booked my trains for this one a few days prior to the Blackburn match. Having carried out an initial price check, I logged in to discover the Edinburgh to York tickets had halved. Thinking it was some kind of bizarre special offer, I secured the booking super quick before the website had a chance to change its mind.

I nearly always split my journey into 2 parts - Edinburgh to York and York to Sheffield - partly because LNER first class is so much better than the CrossCountry equivalent but also due to the latter obviously thinking I'm planning a trip to the moon when I wish to attend a match at Hillsborough.

I printed the tickets on Friday afternoon (a security blanket incase my Trainline app doesn't work). However, upon checking them early on Saturday morning, I discovered the Edin - York ticket prices had been halved for a reason - they were child tickets! I've absolutely no idea how I managed it. I mean, I haven't been a child for over 30 years ffs. But, here I was, getting ready to set off and finding I didn't have the largest chunk of my journey booked after all.

An enquiry at Waverley confirmed I would need to purchase new tickets (they can't upgrade child ones apparently), so I used the aforementioned, trusty Trainline app. One minute later and we were back in business. First Class, here we come...

All was going well. Arrived in sunny Sheffield on time, met my mates and had a refreshing bottle of Corona in the NBT.

On to the match. Excellent result. Brilliant performance. Decent atmosphere. We're almost there. Hopefully the lads can complete the job on Saturday 🙂

One thing I did find quite amusing in between watching the on-field action - Alex Palmer's aerobics. Didn't do him much good for any of the goals though!

And then it happened - if my early doors discovery had been a bit of a shock, it's safe to say the post match part of the day was a less than welcome surprise...

As my mates dropped me off and we said our goodbyes, I took two steps out of the already-departed car and instinctively checked my pockets. My mobile wasn't on my person any longer. I've never lost my phone before. I'm usually super careful. And no mobile meant no Trainline app so, yet again, I didn't have a ticket for the York to Edinburgh leg home!

That situation was quickly rectified. However, the 'standard class' journey to York included some young whippersnapper who exited at dirty Leeds blatantly looking for a fight. "Fuck this", I thought, "I'll be getting an upgrade for the homeward section."

    End result:

    York to Sheffield return - 1 ticket purchased (all good);

Edinburgh to York - 2 separate tickets purchased; and

York to Edinburgh - 3 separate tickets plus one upgrade purchased.

In total, probably not much change out of £300. Oh, and my phone was in the back seat of my mate's car, so all's well that ends well on that front.

And, of course, we won. Well done Wednesday.

I used to be quite good at all this travel nonsense. I blame this episode on old age.

Never get old, whatever you do.

Us, Plymouth, and Cardiff showing an interest in Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard. 22 year old and deemed surplus to requirements. Been on loan at Northampton for the past two seasons and done well. Still under contract but available for £300k or less.

Been with Brighton since he was 16 but just not good enough for the Prem

Remember his name from when he was at Hearts, although I don't think he ever played for the first team.

Another one of those supposed wonderkids who get touted up as the next big thing and fuck off to the bright lights down south before they've even kicked a ball or removed their senior career nappies.

At least playing for Northampton will have given him some experience. And another Scotsman for the squad. Can't complain 😉

    Yes

I can understand why the families come.

But how many others have TV coverage every time?

I suspect it's due to a mixture of:

    1. It's the 35th anniversary. Years ending 0 and 5 are generally more talked about than others;

    2. Nottingham Forest have recently mentioned they may install some kind of memorial (possibly prompted by the guff on the BBC website last week); and

    3. Liverpool lost yesterday (and Thursday), so their disaster richter scale has been ramped up even higher than it would be at this time of year.

  5. Considering we were 4 pts behind the Pigs in 2011/12 with just 3 games left, I can't see how anyone could possibly give up on 2023/24 at this stage.

Granted in that particular season we were up the top end of the table and, therefore, more likely to gain positive results. However, come on to fuck. What's with all the wishy-washy, white flag waving attitudes nowadays? Are folk really that desperate to be noticed on social media?

They were only three points off the play offs before the deduction.

7th place is the last play off spot in that division

Not sure that's right Mr cheat?

    Crawley in 7th - 65 pts.

    Morecambe - were 60 (5 behind), now 57 pts.

    🙂

  7. Let's not forget, this is the Championship. It's unpredictable as fuck.

The dyslexic Rangers probably thought they were on a good thing last Saturday (we certainly thought we were on a bad thing!). Back to back wins over Easter and playing at home to a Wednesday side with 1 point from their last 4.

It's that which makes Stoke more dangerous on Saturday than potentially otherwise. A 3-0 defeat can be a blessing or a curse. There's no way of knowing 'til around 54 hours from now. And the inconsistent nature of results across the board should be ample enough warning for any player or supporter.

    Interesting times ahead...

  8. As usual, the professionally offended in society have dived in, feet first, and interpreted third party comments to suit their narrative.

Personally speaking, I grew up in what the media describe as a 'rough Council estate' (Wester Hailes). I loved it there. Taught me so much about life. Thankfully, I was never in a gang - when you're built like the gable end of a crisp, you don't really pose much of a threat to anyone - but I could probably have gotten in with the wrong crowd if things had been different. From there, who knows what path my life would've taken.

Therefore, on the face of the evidence provided, I can concur with the chap's innocent comments. Kick it Out et al not doing themselves any favours here.

As mote than 4. But reduced like us and Everton for assisting and admitting it early

In that case, no further reduction available on appeal should be allowed.

Might as well just let them off with it.

    "Guilty your honour."

"Thank you for your honesty. Have a couple of hours community service."

They had points taken off for helping and admitted overspend.

    But....they may win appeal.

Tuendd down £30m then £35m from Brentford for Brennan Johnson prior to 30/6, Atleti Offered £42.5m on 30/6 negotiated upped to £55.8m but had to sell first, then Spurs paid £47.5m in July so by holding out they actually decreased loses, although not within the financial period.

But they knew the 'deadline' for compliance and chose to deliberately ignore it in favour of a greater fee received later.

A good decision from a financial perspective. However, they're also admitting they couldn't give a fuck about the rules (whether we agree with them or not is irrelevant).

Did they not fancy a firesale of any of the other 463 players on their books?

This is nothing short of a piss take. 4 miserable points? If that was us, we'd probably get kicked out of the league 😯
