Skamp Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Phew. Awful first half and now a feeling of disappointment that we didn't win in the end. That's Sheffield Wednesday for you. 1 Quote
mkowl Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 What a fucking mad game. Daft disappointed we didn't win that when at HT I was fearing a thumping. 2 Quote
TheExile Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 What a turnaround. Being greedy but felt we could have won it and deserved to second half 1 Quote
owl4ever1867 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Had chances to win that, what a cracking game of 2 halves that was. Iorfa should've scored instead of trying to break the net. I have to say what a cracking challenge that was on Gassama as he beared down on goal, absolutely phenomenal challenge & in the end a match winner saving one at that. Thought Inglesson was outstanding when he came on as was Chalobah who passed the ball around the park beautifully at times. Who would've thought we would've got a point after that first half, just wow. Well played Wednesday in that 2nd half, shows what we can do when set up correctly away from home at the better teams away from home. 1 Quote
TheExile Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 There’s the set up but just a bit of aggression and tenacity made a huge difference. We were totally passive in the first half. Boro had their feet up and couldn’t handle the change from us Quote
HappyOwl Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 You’ve got to hand it to Danny Rohl he’s an absolute genius stuff like this never happened to us but it does now. I’ve never in all my years watching put a bet on at half time to draw when being 3-0 down at half time but today and these days you just have a feeling it could possibly happen. Get in 💙💙💙💙 Wasn’t going to drink tonight after a heavy one yesterday but I’m on it now 🦉🦉🦉🦉 WAWAW 1 2 Quote

Shows the difference in the squad, in particular in the middle of the park where the passing and movement of them, is far superior to ours. I'm not a Bannan basher, per se, but off the ball today he's been awful so far across the half. Bannan was awful in the 2nd half as well. Must have been on the Buckfast Quote
TINK91 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Absolutely expected the worst for the second half. Left the game on and came back with 20 mins to go expecting to turn it off after seeing 5-0 or something like that. I was only in the next room and regret not leaving the volume up. Not sure what Danny said and did in the dressing room at halftime but wouldn't how the team from the first half turned that around I don't know. Quote
KrolMong Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 What a second half, and I am certain Rohl will be disappointed we didn’t win. Chalobah, Ingelsson, Bannan, Charles, Gassama and Windass were outstanding second 45. Iorfa and Lowe good. The decision was made to uber press the first 5 mins. Boro’ shit it. And because we had a bit more security with Chalobah, we could press - yes, the red helped us. But when we got into the last third we looked a massive threat. Massive second half. This team has a proper set. 2 Quote
Harry Lime Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 That was a sight to behold but as others have said the team selection needs a bit of work against the higher teams. But fair play, it got rectified and one great thing about DR's teams they don't lay down easily, there was some belief when they came back out. Not so much supporting a football club, more like being a roller coaster addict, wouldn't have it any other way though. Grunters beat at home, both finishing in the top 6 is a distinct possibility. This team has a proper set. Yes all those did well. Ingelsson especially was a game changer. To be fair I thought we were battering them before the red and actually thought they settled down a bit after the third goal until we picked it up again. Half time I was just hoping to avoid a proper battering. In the end was a teeny bit disappointed that we didn't seal all three points. Quote
bradowl Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Incredible game, when they went 3-0 up I was fearing a right hammering, maybe even worse than the 8-0 defeat back in 1974. To come out of ground a little disappointed that we didn't win was unbelievable stuff. 2 Quote
Waddle93 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Proper game of 2 half's it's great being a Wednesday fan at the minute. Danny, Danny Rohl. 1 Quote
Emre Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Was out visiting relatives today but fuck me, what a comeback. Wherever we finish at the end of the season it's nice to see a spirit in the squad. Obviously they aren't world beaters but I've witnessed worse characters in Wednesday colours Quote
80s Owl Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Put the game on after the usual Xmas indulgences not really expecting much from it, watching Boro tear through us from the off was almost painful, started to feel a bit sleepy but kept it on thinking I'll probably fall asleep anyway, Ingelsson changed all that and the second half was a fantastic watch that could easily have seen us snatch it, the Sky cameras picking up a very miserable looking Gibson at 3-3 added to the fun, great stuff. 1 1 Quote
Harry Lime Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 The two Sky commentators got paid off after the game but John Heaths snatched them up. They'll do well. Quote

mkowl Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 The next step and I am sure what Rohl is striving for is that we start playing at 0 -0. Whilst it is great that after what felt like years of barely any comeback performances, that now happens, but Rohl isn't stupid. He was asked by Staton about the first half and how Boro played, basically it was the style he wants us to have. He knows the jeopardy involved, I seem to recall Boro had a very early chance in the 2nd half. At Sunderland they scored at that point and any tactical tweak was irrelevant. Whilst we are happy with the comeback, those 45 minute nightmare halves are still a tad too frequent if we want to progress. Quote

Was in the toilet queuing after the game when I heard your 'at the match' equivalent telling someone that he'd left the ground at 3-0 but came back in at 3-3! It was obviously all his fault. Put the mockers on us by being there in the first place, then stopped us winning by returning! 2 Quote

Understandably he wasn't looking forward to the next hour at 3-0! One factor that was just as important as all the things we did to change the game was Boro taking Finn Azaz off. Best player on the park 1st half by an absolute mile. Unless injured or not fit, bonkers decision! As well as basically running the game and strolling through us at will, his second goal, a back flick above his head with the outside of his boot without noticeably jumping, was astonishing. And when he, Bannan & Shea Charles are all in midfield it's obvious that we've got three there that the others trust to pass to. If he'd not got injured at Grimsby Town early season, stopping him getting match fit, we could have had an even better season than we've had so far. Another factor I haven't seen mentioned yet was Pol coming on when he did. Straight away he took the left back on for pace a couple of times and absolutely skinned him. That just added to their general panic. Edited December 27, 2024 by Owling_Wolf 1 Quote

Having just watched highlights I'll just change one comment above: Azaz' 2nd goal back flick wasn't above his head, it was from out behind him. (Camera angle is better.) Still outstanding. Last night I read his stats: either 9 goals, 8 assists or vice versa. Absolutely outstanding at half time in the season! Quote
wollowl Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 last time Wednesday came back from three goals down in a match to draw was at stoke. 4-1 down after 55 minutes. November 1963! (according to someone on X) Quote
