Skamp Posted November 28 Posted November 28 (edited) Some interesting figures as well as the league some teams are in. Edited November 28 by Skamp 4 Quote
bradowl Posted November 29 Posted November 29 (edited) Generally through late 70s and most of 1980s attendances were low, ticket prices were fairly cheap but hooliganism and high unemployment kept people away. They were no such thing as tourists attending games like there is today, football wasn't very fashionable. Edited November 29 by bradowl Quote

mkowl Posted November 30 Posted November 30 It is interesting that all those that moan about the changes in the game, the loss of it's working class roots, the ruination by the TV contracts you show them these stats which confirm football was dying on its arse. I will long argue the biggest myth was football was better back then. It wasn't Quote
tomcore Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Wasn't this just after the miners' strike as well? My dad had great pleasure in telling me that's why I was born. Too poor and had to stay in bed to keep warm. Quote

Hooliganism, poor facilities, I would say the top flight was no better than Championship standard Quote

Brick Top Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Our own attendances have been pretty constant to be fair, but look at the Pigs, Dirt and fookin' Barcodes particularly, especially the latter pair who constantly claim the've sold out every match ever played. Like all fans Newcastle's in particular deserted them in their droves, even moreso when they were relegated and struggling close to the bottom of division 2. Also the other NE 'giant' also had very poor gates, 'NE giants, one of the biggest myths in football.😅 Quote
