Gassama played well tonight. Did his defensive bit too by and large - he's  getting better at this. Musaba less so tonight. Did well for the goal though.

Sorry one for the Sky viewers not you proper fans.

For the sake of Owling - the commentators kept calling him Mustafa

The highlight of the first half was the sudden change in commentary from Bullen to the Hull bloke who was decent. A pretty good performance this morning I can't think of any stand out players but most did their jobs and it shows, like the Cardiff game, that there are a lot of teams that are worse than us.

Yes, I'll give him that, I did see some slight improvement. For the record, I like both the lads, of course I do. I just find both of them on the pitch at the same time puts us under pressure when we could really do without it. I think one at a time can be accommodated, just not both, not yet anyway.

Yes. Also saw multiple current & former OwlsOnliners there.  Me & mates were screaming our heads off 2nd half against our dullard tactics and pathetic, weak performances by certain players, especially Musaba. Ironic after that shocking display that he should set up the excellent Smith.

From that point we stood there with bemused smiles, looking at each other whilst shaking our heads.  I'll take the 3 points but Jesus wept, what did we think we were doing 2nd half?  It's a6 good thing they were terrible!

Interesting to note - i said at HT the risk was going into our shell. Spent most of the 2nd half griping like it sounds the fans were in the stadium.

Rohl will rightly say 2 Nil, away, what more do you want. With justification but we just presume the inevitable mistake will arise and you can't go back up the gears.

The point is to be up the top half the table we have to become a 90 minute team and it's still evidence of 45 mins plus perhaps 10

Did they say why Windass was taken off: tactical or injury?

Or why Barnard seemed to be wearing a mask: training knock?  Looked like he bashed it again late on.

Shea was limping for a while but the 2nd goal seemed to cure that!  😋

Nothing said about Windass, though perhaps he retired at HT after being called Dean when taking the penalty. Can't believe it was tactical.

Bernard was presumably post Saturday when he got the head injury. He is suspended for the weekend you will be pleased to learn

Nothing re Windass other than a one line guess that he'd picked up a knock. You don't  get the same detail on the Sports Plus games.

Bernard took that whack in the face on Saturday. Looked unsteady for a few minutes. Assume was linked to that.

Didn't  notice Shea limping. Hope he's  OK for Sunday. Youngsters heal quicker though  🤞

I presume, Bernard was wearing the mask because of the fore arm smash from the previous game, that broke his nose.

Saw that. To be fair only 3 or 4. Most piling in telling them to stop talking bollox.

Thread fail. Mind you, you know who will likely show up soon with his arbitrary virtue signalling.

I suspect that booing will be in the 'usual subject' press tomorrow. We need to move on.

Whilst he tried, he was as ineffective as the rest of 'em tonight.

Btw, a bit of outstanding fuckwittery from me tonight!  As the Owls players were walking up to our crowd's corner, applauding the fans after the match, I wondered what the heck Kasey Palmer was doing walking towards us clapping and holding a Wednesday shirt!   😮

Of course it was our own Nathanial Chalobah.  😄  Just shows how little of him we've seen so far!

In my own defence they did have similar hairstyles and I'd already put my distance specs away.  Honest, guvnor.  👀

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield:

“In the first half we were outstanding with the ball. Against the ball there are points we have to improve - we dropped a little bit deep, and it was about box defending today.

“In 20 minutes we had so many chances and you never know how many chances you will get again, so we have to improve. It’s a small step again, no more, but in the end it was fully deserved.

[On half-time substitutions] “Josh had a little bit of a tight hamstring and Ike had a good performance, a big step on his way, but it was to get fresh bodies in, not about performance. I wanted to bring speed in with Musa.”

toward the end they managed to get a camera shot of the Hull fans outside trudging away from the ground. As I said to my eldest what a depressing choice, leave a stadium with a defeat or head back to the streets of Hull.

It is reassuring that Rohl was not content with the manner of play in the 2nd half.

I mean compared to the shambolic performance under Xisco 15 months ago, part of me accepts be ruddy grateful. But equally there is nothing wrong with wanting us to play as we did in the first half throughout the entire game.

The first half was at times, tremendous, in terms of how we just sliced them apart. And when we couldn’t score, I definitely thought we’d go behind to a poxy goal. But, as we know that wasn’t the case..

Maybe we could have had two pens, I thought we were maybe worthy of a second shortly after the one we did get. But, it was nice to finally just get one!

As mentioned the saves from Beadle though were nothing short of fantastic. The one from Slater I think it was, who took the ball and spun, somewhat Bergkamp-esque to then be in, 10 yards or so out, only to see his shot saved was excellent, but the second one, diving low to his right to push that shot that came, low and fast through a sea of legs onto the post. Wow!

That second half was painful, but the ‘nerves’ in the stadium weren’t too bad. As much as we let them have shit loads of the ball, it was all sideways, and a bit more back across the pitch… or that’s how it felt. Bernard marshalled them well I thought as did Valery and Lowe. And their fans to our left, (who did all seem to be about 14yr old) concentrated on hammering their manager even when they were on the attack, seemingly not bothered about the game!

Their sub, number 20 whose name I forget, should have gone for an assault on Valery. He kicked/kneed Jan in the face right in front of us and by the linesman but not even a free kick was awarded. But…

As much as ‘Mustafa’ is soooo bloody frustrating, his first time cushioned ball for Smith was perfect. As was the finish. Overall we deserved that win, and if we can finish this week picking up something at Derby, then it’s been a decent week and we’re looking up not down.

A really pleasing win, given some of the experiences I’ve had with Hull fans in the last decade. They look really poor which shows how things can change if you go for it and fail.

First half was one of the most entertaining games in a while as I think we played some good football but it was a really open game. Both Windass and Ugbo should have hit the target and it seemed like it would be one of those games again. Top six in the middle of the park, bottom six in both boxes. But the penalty and first goal really sealed it for us.

Im glad we tried a lot harder than the sky team commenting on the game. I can only assume they have some kind of in joke as to how many incorrect references they can sneak into a broadcast. Dean Windass, Mustapha, Sheffield United all involved in the game. Surprised they didn’t suggest Timo Werner would be sacked.

The 2nd pen shout was more marginal, but probably just the right call.

I think it’s the Steve Watson game that generated one of my all time favourite terrace chants. Not particularly novel, but amuses me every time I’m reminded of it.

”One Bryan Robson, there’s only one Bryan Robson…” from three sides of Hillsborough.

It was that game when the chants about Paddy and his wife's infidelity went around the ground, and his missing eyebrow

Yeah I think Beadles save was incredible and against that blades fan too, Slater.

As with any young player there will be really good moments and those less so.

Two different games.  The one where we took the piss out of Robson was 19th Jan 2008, won 2-0 goals from Sodje and Tudders.  He got sacked a couple of weeks later. The Watson game was October the same calendar year.

Does anyone know how to access our first half stats from last night?  I'd love to see them in contrast with the final ones. (Especially possession.)

Go to Flashscores website.

Choose Championship on the left.

There's a little calendar in between < these >.

Click the left one to go back a day.

Click on the match

Missed the first half as I was watching 'The Jackal' which is superb by the way

Turned over for the 2nd half, yes you could say it was boring, yes you could say it was slow but i have to say the way we set up and kept formation was superb, those players are working their socks off for Rohl and SWFC & long may it continue, thought Palmer did a cracking on his namesake when he came on, the goal imo was a superb goal, the way we broke the play up and pressed towards goal at speed was joyous to watch, as another poster said earlier (might be Reesh) if only the pass to Musaba was on point, it would've been 3-0 & we deserved that.

Plenty of positives, let's get Ugbo back up and running and if we carry on like we are I can't see why we can't finish in the top 10.
