Hard lines Wednesday.  No need to blame Palmer either.

Agreed. Credit to the lads tonight.

Some real positives;

Questions on how Charles would perform when actually having shots to save - well he did just great.

Otegbayo grew as the game progressed. Could be a nugget.

Johnson - sublime

Unfortunate in the end there, but a top 2nd half performance once we put a bit of belief in to the play.

Top marks to the defence and I like the look of the young lad in there, you would have no qualms if Charles had to start in goal.

You go into these games thinking it could get embarrassing but take it to penalties and perform not so bad, will hopefully put a level of confidence into them

Really good display that second half. Caused problems, created chances, and Rohls changes, particular with Palmer coming on made a massive difference in getting control back and causing them problems. And we caused lots of problems. What was really positive was the speed we got up the pitch and on top of them.

8 great pens, 1 decent pen and one bad pen.

Performances? Pato, Max Lowe and Johnson very good. Palmer excellent second half. Charles and Otegbayo good.

Very good display.

Well played tonight Wednesday, a reserve team took a decent PL outfit all the way to penalties, absolutely no shame.

WAWAW

I don't think it's a reserve side - it was players who are not currently starting, but we have 20 players plus all of similar ability. A strength compared to the past, but a weakness that in the front areas there are no stand out players at present.

Could perm 3 out of 6, 7 if you include McNeil.

It does highlight the one area we are short, central midfield

But it's a vast improvement and if we continue to improve like that we will be far better off and without blasting loads of money about like you moaned about before.

It wasn't a criticism, it's that to be mid table and above you need 20 players that are decent quality.

So that if you do get injuries or likely soon suspensions these players can come in and we are not weakened.

I don't think the term reserves is right, semantics but we used our squad.

The moan in the past was that cash was splashed with no plan and it was wasted.

Excellent second half performance.  In the end a Prem team squeaked past our reserves.  The tremendous spirit in the squad was there for all to see.  Everything about the club just feels so much more solid…robust these days.

Decent performance by the team, with some very good individual performances. Marv gets my MoM.
I didn’t fancy Palmer for the kick,  but it takes some guts to take them. I think Bernard or Ingelson might have been my choices ahead of Palmer. I guess we’ve got to hope the lads take some confidence from that. Brentford are as we know a decent PL outfit.

Makes me chuckle reading all the positive comments on Pierce Charles when some of you were chucking him under the bus in the first round.

It will be interesting because he is not the tallest keeper and presumably is peak height now. Will that matter as the art of goalkeeping evolves.

The lesson is really mix it up, rather than go short every time. His kicking is better than Beadles

He will shoot up another couple of inches judging by his brothers height.

Pierce is 6ft, Shea is 6ft2 and Beadle is 6ft7 apparently.

If they had got a 2nd it might have been a bit more grim to watch.

But I hope we can take the confidence that you can compete and indeed cause problems, not v Brentford so much but the likes of Leeds and Burnley. We were passive in those games and let them have an easy ride

He just suddenly turned!

He remembered what the memo said from the EFL. Tbh it wasn't a penalty on Pato, and bar a couple of 50 50 free kicks he gave them, I can safely say had a lot ruddy worse

It was the way he gave a foul against Ingelsson in said 50/50 but refused to penalise them for the same or even worse.

Best thing about this cup run for me has been the opportunities given to some of our youngsters. The likes of Charles, Otegbayo and Fusire have acquitted themselves well and all three should be buzzing after tonight. Be interesting to see what the rest of the season has in store for them. Two look like they might be real gems. Fusire looks neat and tidy too.

Am pretty sure I read he's 6' 2".

Tell you what, I watched (and still enjoyed!) yet another version of our 'Great Escape' 2nd leg last week. The thing that most surprised me from less than 18 months ago was how relatively small Pierce Charles was compared with now, both in height and chest devopment, and that's without the big hair.

It’s refreshing to have a team who believe they can win against anyone. Whether we are down 1-0 we still have the desire to keep playing and never give up.

Rohl also “smelling blood” and bringing on 3 forwards rather than bringing on another midfielder and sitting deep is the type of thing you want to see as a fan.

Played well, first half we lacked a threat but gained confidence second half. So much to take from the game which looked like it could have got away from us at HT, but we responded quite well.

Was pleased with Charles making some saves, I still think he’d do well to get sent on loan to somewhere where aerial bombardment from corners is the bread and butter but if he nails that, we have a top keeper on the books.

Unlucky lads, I was fearing the worst after they scored the first but could have easily won it towards the end or on pens even.

What I do like about Charles is he's quick off the mark to come out and gather the ball whereas Beadle can be a bit fearful and backs off. He could do with an extra 3/4 inches but couldn't we all.

Otegbayo looks a star in the making, certainly didn't look out of place.

Good run out for the young lads and others on the fringe.

Disappointing to lose like that but I'm thankful we held our own especially after all them changes and the side Brentford put out, onwards and upwards.

That's a confidence boosting performance tonight for sure, penalties, well whatever, it's the 90 mins that should give momentum. League wise 11 PTS from 6 games, add another game tonight not beaten in 90 mins against an established premier league outfit.

Not wanting to jinx anything but for me DR has stedded the ship after the Sunderland, Leeds and Millwall games.

We will be in a play off spot by Jan 1st, I'm confident.

Next 4 games are in Sheffield,

The one thing that won't disappoint Rohl about going out is that the next round is scheduled for the w/c 16th December. If you look at said fixture list around then. Whilst we held our own last night, the teams that will be left in at the quarter final stage we could have risked a proper drubbing just before the festive fixtures.

I probably disagree that even our A squad is close to matching them. We defended well but it helped they got lulled into false security

Irony is at present we seem better suited and are getting better results away from Hillsborough. We are expected to take the initiative more but it's only really happened v Plymouth and West Brom.

With Famewo out then whilst I don't think Otegbayo will start in the league you would have no qualms if he did.

I always have empathy for the younger lads coming in for games when there are wholesale changes. They can look out of place - what would Fusire look like with Bannan and Charles around him, guiding him a bit.

The biggest compliment is that we are starting to get a few coming through the development system. Long overdue, much better than throwing big money wages at those at the end of their career
