Blue sky thinking for The Owls…..

Recommended Posts

If DR is looking at fresh legs while keeping the core of the team then I'd rotate the front 3 for Smith, Lowe and Gassama, but I'd go narrow and get Lowe and Gassama playing off Smith. The width can be provided by swapping Valéry out for Pol.

Cov play 4-2-3-1 with width from the full backs so playing a more compact front 3 forces them to lose one of the defensive mids or one of the full backs has to tuck in, which would leave space out wide.

I’d go with that too.

Smith has got to start because we have to get through the press quicker and it’s got to stick. Ugbo is struggling with this part at the minute.

I thought Lowe was bright when he came on, as was Gassama, so they both get a nod. Valentin was good too because of his pace and his ability to get up the pitch.

I’d actually throw Iorfa in ahead of Palmer this week.

Wednesday are currently 6 behind on the head to head record v Coventry.

Wednesday wins 29

Cov wins, 35

Draws 24

The last time we won in Coventry….

Well, let’s say we’re due one…. Because the person who scored the winner for us, in a 1-0 win.. was … Guy Whittingham in 1995!!!!

I don’t think he’ll throw Iorfa straight in after injury, DR doesn’t seem to do that.

Nothing wrong with that first half.

Gassama and Ingelsson have been good. Charles and Bannan have been good.

Despite what the commentators have said, I thought the Coventry goal was just good play. He got his body across Charles to get goal side, and it was a very good finish.

But, we’ve been miles better than them after that. They’ve got a lot of players on yellows due to Gassama doing them on the turn. We’ve missed two good chances too.

We don’t need to change anything. Their lift side is the weak side and we need to keep probing that side of the pitch.

After the Luton match my fear with the next 3 games that looked tough we would go into this break in the bottom 3

But 7 points out of 9 with 2 away games is way more than i could have hoped for.

And the performances have merited it.

Keep these levels up is the next step

Gents.

We have worried about the spine. I think we might have solved it.

Beadle, Bernard, Famewo, Charles and Bannan.

All five outstanding today both with and without the ball. Coventry got on top but didn’t create clear cut chances. Even the one that hits the bar hits the Coventry player.

But it’s worth noting that we did create a couple of good chances and got in some really good positions wide and didn’t pick the right pass.

That winner though was brilliant from Musaba to beat three and it was a lovely finish from Charles.

What was pleasing was the little shifts in shape we did - the players have bought into the models.

Just on Charles and Bannan. They look good as a pair. Bannan is playing far higher up the pitch and Charles reads the game, is really quick, and is very good one touch passer. And Bannan is benefitting from all those runners ahead of him.

One other note. We looked far more mobile and athletic than they did. Just quicker all over the pitch.

It was a good team performance, from the spine an all those out wide as well.

The key is how players put a shift in and the players who replace them are not sulking about starting on the bench, offer a different dynamic and cause problems like today.

I thought, looking at the fixtures, just before the start of the season, that 15 points from the first 10 would be a good return and we may not be far off that 👍

We should be sat on 16 from 9

What a brilliant performance, well done all. Loved seeing Robins' dial, a sight to behold. Some good performances in there, finally got the rub of the green at last. MOM today I'll go for Charles especially after getting the winner.

Even though he's wank...I've been very impressed by Bannan in the last few games.

I think this is the only time since the early days with Carlos that he seems to have bought into the tactics and is showing perfect discipline in the role that Röhl has given him

This (and his diabolical set plays) has been  why I've criticised him constantly for the last 7 season or so.

I think the Wenzdi commentary team alluded to the reason why he seemingly is finally buying in to the manager, when they said that BB now understands when he needs to come off etc.

Perhaps he needed to realise that his own physical limitations and having Charles next to him - doing the running for the team- will extend his career in the championship

Robins sacked his assistant manager of seven years to bring George Boateng onto the coaching staff.

Adi Viveash had spent 9 years high up in Chelsea's academy system before joining Robins and a lot of Cov fans are now wondering if it was Viveash that was making the team tick all along

A lot to agree with here
