Reesh Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Afternoon pal. Opinions on Andy Parslow, just joined us as set piece coach. Quote
Tylluan Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) At Swansea he was deemed a bit autocratic for Russell Martin's liking but Swansea scored more set piece goals in his first 4 games than the whole of the previous season and they finished with more set piece finishes than the previous four seasons combined Similar tale at Wimbledon. While he was there they scored the most goals from set pieces of any club in the Premier League and EFL, going on to finish the campaign with the joint-most goals scored from wide free-kicks in the country. He also almost halved the amount of goals conceded from set pieces during his time, based on stats from the season before he joined. He appears to be really good at his role. I just think Martin couldn't handle the amount of time he wanted with the team. It reaped rewards though. Edited September 26, 2024 by Tylluan 3 Quote
Hirstys 12th Pint Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Decent endorsement there Ty. Russell Martin looks easy to fall out with. Quote
Tylluan Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 At Wimbledon and Swansea he had a pre season to put ideas in place and although there's an international break coming up several key players may be called up. It may take a little longer to see the benefits of him. Plus we've got to have refs that will give us the free kicks in the first place Quote
EastCraigsOwl Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Will he insist on a change of set piece taker? 1 Quote

Tank_Owl2,0 Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) Tbh he’s going to be starting from a very low baseline. At the moment when we get a corner we are more likely to concede than score! Edited September 26, 2024 by Tank_Owl2,0 1 2 Quote

owl71 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 If we score from a corner this side of Christmas the blokes done a reasonable job. Quote
Tank_Owl2,0 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I thought we looked better today, defensively and a bit better offensively. I noticed the new guy was off the bench a few times as well during the game. Quote
Andyben Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I noticed the first corner and subsequent free kicks hitting the first defender when taken with a left foot. I don't see why Free kicks from 10yd inside their area and 5 yards from th touchline are taken by anyone other than the full back or even centre half Quote
Hirstys 12th Pint Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Thought we got a couple of great defensive headers in from wide free kicks particularly. Quote
Tylluan Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 The wingers always used to take the corners because they were on the pitch primarily to put crosses in. But modern football has done away with traditional wingers so 'specialists' have taken over. I've always thought that the best crosser of a ball at the club is Marv but he never gets a look in 1 Quote

The first goal was poorly defended all round. The second I am still convinced was a foul throw, the chaps foot looked well over the line. Not much you can do when a mis hit shot does a Barnes Wallace. However all our goals were good in different ways. The turnover and overload for the first (and a bit of luck). The 2nd I can safely say shut me up at home, as I was moaning about it going backwards from a throw in or summat then a 50 yard ball. But watch our 3rd goal. One of the best team goals we have scored in a while. Proper pass and move stuff. Love it Quote
