Friday night quiz

Everyone gone off line, down the pub, or is the quiz too easy?

Correct answers so far.

  1. Stan Mortensen. Incidentally, winners Blackpool beat Wednesday at Hillsborough in the 3rd round.
  2. The “White Horse” final in 1923 (first at Wembley).
  3.
  4. Twice. Boxing Day 2012: 1-0 (Sidibe) & 12/3/19: 2-0 (My source suggests Fletcher only got one). Played 9 (2-4-3) including one league cup defeat.
  5. Paul Warhurst
  6.
  7. Sherpa Van.
  8. Gary Megson.
  9.
  10. Kevin Davies. He is the only one not to play for Sheffield United although he was at the club’s academy.

I’ll reveal the final three answers before setting off to Bolton in the morning if they haven’t already been identified.

9. Lofthouse correct. 30 goals in 33 appearances.

4. Looking at the date of the second win, I guess Bruce was the manager at the time. We’ve had so many I’m losing track. The second scorer though was a Bruce signing. I think, like Sidibe, he’s a one goal Wednesday wonder.

Jordan Spence. Signed him about 1am Saturday morning before we played Boro away. Same day Anthony Gardener got injured and (I think) ended his career.

Fucking hell, I actually managed to get that one right!

Remember that game at Middlesbrough. 1-1 draw. Antonio opened the scoring before they equalised. You're also spot on re AG. Never played again 🙁

Did it lead to us signing Loovens later that season

Absolute Rolls Royce of a player. Said it before but Gardner was the  best CB we've had since Prem

Have to admit, I'd never really given that much thought previously.

Probably would've preferred Gardner staying fit in all honesty. As good a player as Loovens was, I always saw him as a bit of a blouse. Christophe Berra was the same at Hearts. Got shoved off the ball way too many times over the years. Spoiled all their other (very) good work.

Both were model professionals though, and excellent club servants 🙂

What do you know about Rochdale?

As there’s not much to know about Rochdale FC, I’ve add some clues for famous people from Rochdale.

I’ll confirm correct answers at full time if I’m in a good mood.

  1. Name the player from his career 1977 to 1987.

Wednesday 133 apps 4 goals

Oxford 24 / 1

Chesterfield 7 / 0

Cardiff 25 / 0

Rochdale 97 / 2

2. Rochdale aren’t the most successful of clubs. Arguably their most successful year would be 1962. What happened that year?

3. Rochdale’s manager at the time was Tony Collins. What significant first did he achieve?

4. A statue of Rochdale legend David Clough has been erected at Spotland. How did he gain legendary status?

5. Which post war Wednesday boss also managed Rochdale?

6. Which record, extending for 36 years, belongs to Rochdale?

Name the famous Rochdalians?

7. Oh goodie, goodie, here’s a grey bearded tit.

8.  This singer, no relation to Gracie, is known all around the world.

9.  She’s no Annie Walker.

10. Brookside actress remembered for a lesbian kiss.

11. Bonus question. Name the other actress in that kiss. She comes from nearby Oldham.
