My Dad's mum died from TB,  Reesh. She was 21 or 22. He was 5.  They lived in Crookes, I believe. Around 1928.

No worries, folks. It was a long time before my time and you weren't to know: my Dad lost his Dad, too, when he was only 12 and his dad 30.  (He 'rode' a saddle style wetstone, sharpening tools, and the stone dust went into the 'mist' from the water and he breathed it in.)  Sheffield would have been one of plenty of tough places to live back then, no question.

Dad had a wretched time after that, running away from an orphanage twice, until a kind auntie took him in and looked after him in her house in Walkley. He left school at 14 and started work, going off to WW2 about 3 years later. I never saw any of my grandparents but we certainly visited my Dad's Aunty Emily as a family, lots of times.

How did “deary, deary me” turn out as “death, dearly me”?
Still, death upon all who make the most unforgivable of unforgivable mistakes.

He let Crann spellcheck it.

Bad enough that they call us them, but what the fuck does that sentence even mean? We're 12th, 10 points clear of the bottom 3, I'm not suggesting we can't go down, but we don't look to be particularly in trouble...

D’ya know what. I do think there’s some decent stuff on the star site from time to time. But the editing is horrific. As articles like that prove.

Its like the editors are based miles away and don’t even know ‘what a sheffield Wednesday is’ 😝

There's very little quality content though Tee, and I don't think that is down to the journos, there's a lot of articles that are rehashed from previous stories and are mainly in to fill content/word count quotas.

I agree that I don’t think there’s a LOT. While there has been some though, your last line resonates

Nowt to do with that mate! I ain’t in that world anymore as you know very well. I do think sometimes AM and JC get unwarranted stick. I do think the ‘publication’ as a whole isn’t the best though.

In the words of Roy Keane "It's their job" and they don't seem to be doing it that well for me.

I meant fence sitting pal.

The stars shit. The regurgitation of social media; inane features and fucking terrible presentation has killed it.

The same can be said of all the regional rags these days. Over half of the Doncaster Free Press Facebook page has nothing to do with Doncaster and is dictated to them by the holding company. Half of the remaining half then appears lifted from local community notice boards dressed up as news.

It's the need to appear to be relevant and earn ad fees unfortunately that drives this 24/7 drivel.
