Dennis Adeniran, Jaden Brown, Sam Durrant, Ryan Galvin, Ben Heneghan, Jack Hunt and David Stockdale will be released upon expiry of their current contracts. Wednesday have exercised options to retain Barry Bannan, George Byers, Lee Gregory, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer and Josh Windass. New contract offers have been made to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Marvin Johnson and Callum Paterson. Aden Flint and Reece James leave Hillsborough following their respective loans. The Owls would like to thank all departing players for their services following a memorable campaign and we wish them the very best for the future. Bit tough on the lad after the injury he sustained, but he was at best a League 1 defender Adeniran does have promise but never consistent and is he good enough for the Championship Whether FDB, Johnson or Patterson take up the contract offer will be interesting, the former I suspect thinks he could do better. Don't think I'd want Flint in the Championship, maybe 5 years ago but not now. Undecided on James, if he wasn't good enough for Blackpool then he's probably not good enough for us. Not 100% certain that Dele or Pato will sign, but Johnson will. One or two people saying they are shocked by Adeniran, I’m not. Injured and poor apart from the first 6 weeks of his time here, might end up being good enough for the Championship but, a long way off right now. I had high expectations of Adeniran and Fizz this season but both haven’t met what we needed for different reasons. As was said in the playoff final thread it’s quite telling that DM didn’t put either of them on earlier (I know Fizz did at the end) but given their supposed athleticism it’s an indication of why DM isn’t pushing the boat out, even if Fizz has been offered something I suspect it’s not what he’ll think he should get. We will need close to double figures to replace those outgoing which is a big job. Could have been even bigger in L1 although I suspect in that alternative universe we’d see henegan and Adeniran staying and the likes of Paterson and FDB leaving for sure. I reckon Chansiri would have triggered the options regardless of league to get a fee or two even if they wanted out. We will need a fair few defenders and wing back types but it will be interesting to see how far we take improving the front line. I hope we do a fair bit there as none of the players we have are likely to get anywhere near as many in the championship. Gregory off the bench could be handy and smith will put himself about and has scored an ok amount at Rotherham but we will need a bit more quality. Yeah FDB, Bakinson, Adeniran all lost DMs trust toward the end. Perhaps Bakinson will be shipped out on loan too. Adeniran leaving but FDB potentially staying is a strange one, in that Adeniran, while not sparkling this season at least offered something, while post September FDB offered very little. But arguably his potential is higher. I expected Johnson to be on the list of those let go too, based on if we're looking to address the average age being so high, BUT I can see why we've offered him another deal. He's a decent player. Hunt, sad to see him go from a sentimental point of view, but in truth it's not a shock. I think Heneghan, Adeniran and maybe even Stockdale have ‘suffered’ from us getting promoted. But I don’t think any of them are good enough for the Championship if truth be told. TBH of the three offered new contracts I wouldn’t be gutted if they said no, but also quite happy if they stuck around. So all pretty much spot on for me. He was a brilliant player before he picked up the injury last season. Hope he finds another club and stays injury free to become a quality player for them.
