OptimisticOwl
This sort of deal is what concerns me about Wednesday ever getting back into the top flight. I just can't identify with average (any) players earning so much and suspect I might lose that 'connection' I've had with the club for over 50 years. At my age, I could well be dead before it happens of course, so I'm not too worried. 😉

Current climate or not, some are on eye watering sums. However, I don't blame the players for it, not one bit. If the clubs are willing to pay, then why not. I wouldn't refuse an eye watering sum 'on principle' and I don't think many of us would.

Mind you, he played for us in the opening game against Reading and was gone the following week, so I suppose there is still a chance we might get the sell on monies and use it for a new signing. Tylluan
Barcelona might have a problem. All their new signings aren't registered with the league yet so can't play (as of posting). La Liga refusing to register the players until further proof of funds can be provided and payments are made on deferred wages to players like de Jong and Ter Stegen. Barca have counted by telling the players who are owed deferred wages that their contract renewals are null and void, due to criminal activity by the old board, and that if they want to stay at the club then they'll have to revert to their old contracts. de Jong could possibly owe Barca money if a judge rules in the club's favour and rips up the new contracts. Otto_Man
It's pretty obvious that De Jong is going to end up in the same boat as Messi, in so far as he's going to be forced to leave and join a club he doesn't really want to...

It's all well and good having the ethic, but if the players are miles off being good enough (and let's be right most of the team that got them promoted are) then you're in for a season of struggle. Look at what happened to Cardiff, miserable season that one they had in the PL
