Wednesday battle for decent point.

A trip to the LIberty Stadium would have been a daunting prospect a few games ago, but a resurgent Wednesday feared nothing going into the game against the Championship's meanest defence and came away with a point which lifted them out of the bottom three.

There were no changes from the side that faced West Brom in midweek although Marcus Tudgay was back in the squad after illness.

With the Swans in decent form and looking to further enhance their credentials as playoff contenders, the Owls did expect a tough game and it was the hosts did take the game to their opponents early on. With former Blade, Dave Cotterill trying his best to silence the travelling Wednesdayites by testing Lee Grant with a shot from range.
The home side seemed content to play quite a few long balls upfield, something which played right into the hands of Mark Beevers and Darren Purse who again looked quite an accomplished partnership in the heart of the defence, as they frustrated another ex Blade, Craig Beattie.

Jermaine Johnson continues to be a threat as it was his looping effort from range which got the Wednesdayites off their feet but unfortunately, the Jamiacan international's effort was to go the wrong side of the crossbar.
The Owls were tenacious in the tackle and frustrating the home team and support as the half time whistle arrived.

Paulo Sousa threw his equivalent of the kitchen sink at the Owls as the second half began with Shefki Kuqi and Cedric Van Der Gun both taking to the field as they looked to break the deadlock. Kuqi almost netted after Darren Pratley found the ex-Owl but the Swans striker fired his effort narrowly wide of the target.

Leon Clarke then was a whisker away from putting the Owls in front after Luke Varney had done well to create the space for a cross from the right. Tommy Miller was then denied by a fantastic block by Ashley willians who was left laying on the field, such was the venom in the shot.

As the clock ticked down, the home side were looking to secure yet another 1-0 victory as it seems to be their favourite scoreline this season and after Sousa threw his last striking option, Lee Trundle, onto the field it almost paid dividends.
Mark Gower found Trundle inside the box and the normally predatory striker was expecting to wheel away in celebration but he could only steer his effort wide of the upright to the disbelief of the home support.
Williams then headed wide with the goal at his mercy as Wednesday were living dangerously, but they could've snatched the points had Clarke made a clean contact on the ball after being found in space but his touch was to let him down at the vital moment.
