Many instantly thought that when Akpo Sodje returned to Charlton on loan until the end of the season that it would spell the end of his Wednesday career and now it seems to be true.

Sodje hit the net for Charlton last night in their two-one defeat against Brighton at the Valley last night, and he revealed to the News Shopper that a deal IS on the cards with the League One club.

He said: “I’d love to stay and there’s something on the table but I’m not really going to discuss a contract or anything, I’m going to focus on the next game and just keep myself going.'

The Nigerian born striker will always be held in high regard by some Wednesdayites for his part in the first Sheffield derby and his subsequent run of form which thrust him into the spotlight at Hillsborough, but since then he has failed to match that since. Sodje found himself hampered by injury for the majority of last season and has failed to impress Alan Irvine since he took over the manager's job in January.

Sodje seems to have found himself at home in the capital however, playing alongside his brother, Sam, at Charlton and two other former Owls, Deon Burton and Lloyd Sam.

He is free to discuss a move of course under the bosman ruling, so it remains to be seen if he will sign on the dotted line for the Addicks.
